Netgear Genie popup dialog issue (macOS)
Netgear Genie dialog issue
Netgear Genie v2.3.38
macOS Mojave 10.14.1
My Netgear Genie displays this dialog each time it’s launched.
[!] Do you want the “NETGEARGenie.app" to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking Deny may limit the applications behavior.
This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security & Privacy preferences.
[?] [Deny] [Allow]
Clicking “Allow” closes the dialog and the app opens. What becomes an issue is it happens every time Genie opens (and since it opens at login, that's every time the computer is started) - this gets old fast.
Clicking the [?] explains how to add the app to the allowed list of apps that can accept incoming connections through the firewall by opening the System prefs. > Sec & Privacy > Firewall. Then clicking the [+] and browsing to the app then selecting it and it's in the list - green dot and all.
All this appears to have No effect on the unwanted behavior. Next time on startup, Genie loads and the popup dialog is back. Very frustrating.
I have searched high and low for a solution short of removing Genie. I have found numerous threads on this subject and some on the same issue with other apps (apparently MS Word sometimes behaves this way). At this point, I have only one clue left. I found the following notation on the Apple support site:
“Some apps check their own integrity when they are opened without using code signing. If the firewall recognizes such an app it doesn't sign it. Instead, it the ‘Allow or Deny’ dialog appears every time the app is opened. This can be avoided by upgrading to a version of the app that is signed by its developer.”
Could it be that the Genie app has a faulty certificate or is signed incorrectly or is checking it’s “own integrity when they are opened without using code signing”? This would certainly explain this behavior and could be a simple fix. Netgear just needs to update the app and offer it for download.
If the certificate is good, then will someone please solve this!!

Re: Netgear Genie popup dialog issue (macOS)
Delete the Genie app. The app needs to include option to turn incoming connections off or on and it doesnt. This app needs to be updated especially for MAC users.
