R6250 access control in Genie

I have an R6250, using latest firmware V1.0.4.2_10.1.10.  For some reason, Access Control is not available in Genie.

  • Direct Web version, under Advanced/Security there is no access control as seen in Genie documentation linked to from this forum.**
  • From Android version, there is no checkbox to enable it on the network map, as the Genie App user manual shows.

(** There is an option buried in the web verson in Advanced/Advanced setup/wireless settings/set up access list)

Since there is the deeply buried function, it should be possible to do it on the android app as the documentation says.  Has this been removed from app, or is there some reason the function doesn't work on the R6250?  It would be great to temporarily turn off the kids access.  I've got parental controls on, but the most restrictive it will set is "high" which still allows some access.

Thanks,

Re: R6250 access control in Genie

Hi @Jim6250,

The Access Control feature of the NETGEAR Genie will only work with firmware versions which have that option under Security > Access Control. If you want to completely remove access to the Internet, you can perform Address Reservation then setup a schedule to block all services (includes Internet) on a specific IP address range. You may refer to the links below for the steps.

Re: R6250 access control in Genie

Thanks, I suspected as much, considering the function was missing in both places.

Any way to tell if the firmware is under development enough that it gets full functionality (and not just bug fixes)?

Hi @Jim6250,

For as long as a device is not yet on EOL (End of Life) status, then it may continue to receive firmware updates and fixes. You can check this on the product page.
