FSV318N connection drop and kernel emergencies and errors in log

Here are some of the messages that appear on my syslog server:

[Kernel] Should overwrite TID here for NULL data

[Kernel] xt_TCPMSS: bad length (589 bytes)

[Kernel] <sppe_cmd_arp> Fail to delete IPv4 ARP entry

according to my isp, the line is stable. according to my previous isp (yes I have changed isp's to check if it was their fault)

it was ARP table related.

The connection gets back online in about a minute or so.

I have the latest firmware :

Firmware Version:4.3.5-3

These connection drops make me trust netgears stability less every day.

We have a win2012r2 webserver behind it (opening port 80 and the port for ssl and ftp) which should be up and running 24/7

Hi simstars,

Welcome to our community!

It seems that you were having issues with arp table. Have you tried to enable/disable the arp broadcast? Go to Network Configuration > LAN Setup - Advanced(Upper right corner) - Enable ARP Broadcast then hit Apply.

Re: FSV318N connection drop and kernel emergencies and errors in log

it's on by default. Disabling it seems not like a solution to me. Seems like a workaround.

and what about the other two messages:

[Kernel] Should overwrite TID here for NULL data

[Kernel] xt_TCPMSS: bad length (589 bytes)

especially the first one does appear a lot in the log.

simstars,

Yes, you are correct. That is just part of our workaround to see if that would work. You may also try to flash the firmware.

I have had this issue with older firmware builds too.

Have just received a mail from the forum with a lot of empty placeholders

@simstars,

I'm afraid that this placeholders is not coming from the firewall itself. Have you tried connecting it to another router just to isolate?

lol, no the empty placeholders are in the mail I received from this netgear community forum.

I have replaced the router before with a 336 prosafe I believe. Connection dropped too. I thought it could be the combination of the modem with the prosafe product line. But we moved from fiber optic to cable internet and that did not solve it too.

simstars,

Have you tried to check that same email on other network and check if will show the same thing? May I know who is your ISP?

Re: FSV318N connection drop and kernel emergencies and errors in log

it's not about the email which I received from this netgear community forum with the empty placeholders.

it's about the logs from the fvs318n router/firewall/vpn which has red errors and red emergencys listed.

I have contacted Netgear about it and they say: the product is out of support since september https://www.netgear.com/support/product/fvs318n.aspx

so there is no support for the errors etc. even though I have had them for ages. Even before I switched ISP's

I moved from fiber optic to cable dsl and had (the same) issues with both.

Seems disabling the by default enabled udp/tcp flood fixes the connection drops.

simstars,

That's great. It seems that everything works ok now right after you disable udp/tcp flood. It seems that there is something going on inside your network.
