This item is sold as a complete and easy VPN, however it is somewhat misleading as the Netgear Insight VPN does not do NETBIOS over VPN. This needs to be impletmented ASAP This has apparently been requested before and has not happened, looking at the box, it does not advise anywhere that this is not possible and this is a basic requiement of the VPN. As I have two of these units and bought twenty licenses for 3 years I feel somewhat cheated on this. Can someone please investigate this?

Please add Traffic Shaping to the BR500.
Let admins prioritise a specific VLAN and limit or garantee a given amount of bandwidth.
For Example:
WAN connection 50Mbps UP/DOWN
VLAN1 contains servers
VLAN2 contains desktops
VLAN3 contains VOIP phones
VLAN4 wifi office
VLAN5 wifi guests
When Windows Updates are downloaded on the servers each day at rondom moments, users complain that connections to Office365 is slow. Also during the day users complain that VOIP calls are disconnected of audio quality suffers.
Sometimes when Guests are using the Wifi, all these problems seem to happen aswell.
Solution:
Create a traffic shaping rule for VLAN1: Set the priority to medium and limit the maximum bandwitdh to 30Mbps shared.
Create a traffic shaping rule for VLAN2: Set the priority to medium no limits
Create a traffic shaping rule for VLAN3: Set the priority to high and set a garanteed bandwitdh of 5Mbps shared.
Create a traffic shaping rule for VLAN4: Set the priority to medium no limits
Create a traffic shaping rule for VLAN5: Set the prioriy to low and limit the maximum bandwitch to 5Mbps per session.

I've upgraded from FVS338, which is EOL, to BR500 (currently the only option, and a very decent one!), and the feature that I've lost in translation is the option to provide WINS server address via DHCP to Windows host. The FVS338 had it, but BR500 does not. The WINS server is a necessity absent a domain, which is a common situation for a small business workgroup type network, especially given that the domain may be in Azure Active Directory, well under their free limit (moving in that direction). It may look like a weak justification, but most little businesses run on Windows, the locally hosted domain controller (expensive Windows Server!) is no longer even required for user directory, and a WINS server is an integral networking component in such a network. It would be extremely nice to have this option back!

It would be great, if there is a feature for the BR500 and WAC540 to allow us to change the client name, which we can then recognize as to which devices are on the network, etc., through the Insight Application and also on the admin page and to have a feature as well on these two devices to have parental controls as well, if businesses are using it for their work, whilst working from home, etc. Also, another suggestion of a feature under "Block Sites" in the back end of the admin page that you can just type "Pornography", "Explicit Content", which it will block all sites internationally on the website, instead of us having to mention the "Keyword and Domain Name" on it. Businesses would like to have it as well, because they want their employees to work safely on the network, etc. Lastly, it would be great if the WC540 could be supplied with a Power Supply in the box as well, instead of purchasing it separately. Thank you.

Dear Netgear(community) As of right now VLAN is unfortunately not supported by the Orbi Pro. For two reason I think a device aimed at SMB's and marketed as PRO should offer this. 1) My Provider (TM Malaysia, Unify) requires VLAN Tagging on my WAN Port. e.g. vlan.500 for Internet PPPoE (other VLAN ID's for IPTV, etc. but that's irrelevant to me). Right now I am forced to use a managed switch as a workaround. A hassle I would like to avoid. 2) To my understanding right now my 3 Networks (Admin, Employee, and Guest) are isolated on MAC level. This is too much of an insecurity as a common address space is shared. Looking forward to you recognizing the necessity of upgrading your system to match requirements of the very SMB's you are currently marketing your device at.
To support that this is not just a request of relevance to myself, I would greatly appreciate if others affected by it would just hook on!
Best Regards Ben

In the Netherlands it is common practice for residential fibre internet that the fibre media is shared allong multiple ISPs. Different ISP's use there own VLAN tag to provide internet services. With the BR500 it is not possible to use VLAN tagging on the "internal" LAN network and use VLAN tagging on the "external" WAN network at the same time. I now have two options. Use the **bleep**ty router supplied bij the ISP with the BR500 configured in the DMZ or to offer up two ethernet ports on my switch to untag the WAN traffic and this is a waste of ports. So both are not the best options! Please add the WAN vlan tagging feature to the BR500. Please buy a Fortigate (60E for example) and have a good look on how this UTM device can be configured with the option to create "zones" for WAN, LAN, WIFI or whatever and assign, physical interfaces of VLAN interfaces to a zone. Firewall rules or traffic shaping rules are then applies to the zones. This makes it very easy to add or remove subnets from a network without having to reconfigure the entire firewall!

Many fibre optic providers in Switzerland are upgrading speeds to 1Gbps up to 10Gbps. With the current WAN/LAN throughput of 924 Mbps, the BR200/BR500 are no choice. It would be great to have a business insight managed router in your lineup to serve this market which I believe is growing everywhere.

I really like the NetGear Equipment and the ease of use in the cloud tool. But there is one major issue for an MSP. There is no way to assign a specific license to a device! I have a number of customers, who have purchased different duration of license. If you have two customers that have expiring or near expiring license, and one of them decides on 3 years and another on 1 and you add the codes in all at the same time. You can now only allocate a number of licenses. So one customer may get 3 years when they paid for 1. I think you seriously need to review your allocations tools, unless I am missing som

I have an issue where if I create a tagged VLAN on a JGS516PE, GS108PE, & JGS524PE switch on the uplink port then it will pull an IP from that tagged VLAN as its management VLAN. e.g. I have VLAN1 - 192.168.1.0/24 - untagged and VLAN100 - 192.168.100.0/24 - tagged then the switch will grab 192.168.100.25 as a management VLAN. I created a ticket with Netgear support on this issue and I was told that the switch was sending out DHCP requests for each VLAN and which ever it recieved back first it would take and ignore the rest. The solution was to assign a static IP since the Plus series doesn't support management VLAN changes. I believe assigning a static is a patch to an issue that shouldn't exist. I know a change in the way that we do the initial setup will allow us to know which static we need to use before we deploy the switch with tagging but it has been an issue before and we had to create inter-VLAN routing to be able to get back to the switch and manage it.

I've had an unfair share of trouble when trying to restore saved configuration files (.cfg config) to GS108Ev2 running firmware 1.00.12. Eventually, I gave up and reprogrammed 3 switches from scratch. I had to go through the whole building to locate them. Brought with myself a laptop and had a phone handy to talk to a guy in the control room.
I think I found out what happened: Older versions of the Plus Utility do not support the password encryption required by V1.00.10 firmware. The old config files had unencrypted passwords (I checked with a hex editor). The new firmware expects its password encrypted, so it couldn't load the old password. I was locked out of the switches.
A cleartext header in the config file could help, so the switch (or the user!) knows which firmware version saved the config. If you want to make it really functional, have the firmware perform appropriate checks at load (restore) time, so old unencrypted passwords keep on working on new firmware versions.

The GSS108EPP is almost the perfect switch for my needs with Poe and LAG functionality. However connecting it to my older GS724Tv3 switch, I have had to set the LAG mode to Static mode as my latest switch the 108EPP does not have Dynamic / LACP functionality. However I can't connect to my Asus Router in the same way as that only accepts the more robust LACP method. Please can you advise if you are planning to add LACP mode for LAG setup to the GSS108EPP? I am sure many would find this useful and allow much better compatibility with other devices.

If NetGear wants Insight to be considered Business Class then we need One-to-One Parity of Device Management between Cloud Managed vs Direct Connect Managed. In my case I need to manage ACLs to allow for MultiCast Traffic which at the moment I can ONLY do with Direct Connect Managed. However, when I switch between the two modes the switch erases ALL settings. This is DOable its just software. To drive this idea home I find that SonicWALL has both Cloud Manage devices as well! However, they do HAVE One-to-One Parity so that any setting in the Direct Web Management is available in the Cloud Web Management! In addition, If I make a change directly on the SonicWALL device then a background task in the Cloud pickups those Direct changes and they are reflected in the Cloud View. The value of Insight Portal is much less if I can't manage every seting from the Portal!

For Hotels and other businesses which have a variety of clientele from different nationalities. While it's potentially a small change it would be advantageous to have proper multi-language support the for the instant captive portal product. The current captive portal, while you can enter your own labels / terms and conditions. The actual interface remains in english, looking very un-professional. Simply making the option to pick a langage for the interface would help or allowing edditing of the entry button / other text and links. This could be taken a step further and allow for several languages, with a dropdown option to change to the clients preffered language in the captive portal. This allows us to then present terms and conditions in other languages and one could tailor advertising to match. Creating a much more professional and useful product in the long run.

Router Firmware Version V2.5.1.106 I'd really like to see some improvement in the attached device list. I am curious what other users think about it. I believe the list could be much more concise and not so redundant with the information on each listed line. With just a list of 26 devices, it currently takes TWO page to list them, why? 26 devices could easily be displayed on a single page. Also, what about the large graphic icons? Do you really need a graphic for an attached device list report? Use the name of the graphic, not the image. Use test for the connnect bandwidth for 2.4G or 5G, not the icon graphic. Another thing, when you sort the IP address column, it sorts by text and not numerically by the last octet of the IP address. The search function seems to only search in the device name column, why not search the entire table? If you're looking for a paticular IP address, it will not search for it - but wait, the IP address in the device name column, but search will not find it there. Go figure!!! I am sure a better attached device list is very low on the list of feature requests. As I mentioned in some previous posts, I am new to Netgear routers, just offering my observations. Thanks!

JGS524Ev2 I am using this in a house but in the Utility I should be able to add in a descriptive field to the ports so I know the location mapping of the ports to areas in the house without having to look at them from a piece of paper, or my failing memory. Simple solutions, significant impact to understanding the utility functionaility.

Our vulnerability scanning shows that our switch's management over HTTPS only has TLS 1.0. In today's world, everything should be at TLS 1.2, so it is causing our vulnerability scanning to report it as a high vulnerability. We have the latest firmware (10.0.2.20), and have recently re-issued the certificates, so I'm not sure what to do. We have the ability to create self-signed certs externally to the switch, but it doesn't seem to allow us to use them. I can only see how to let the switch generate its own certificates. It is also reporting that it is using weak cipher suites. How can I ge these upgraded?

Hello, We purchased the BR500 mainly for it's VPN functionality and the offer we got. But we are missing a feature which is crucial for any IT testing company. This is why I'm sending you this request to add the option to setup port forwarding on multiple WAN addresses. The unit can handle a 255.255.255.248 mask on the WAN side, but there is no way in the Port forwarding to tell the device it should listen beyond it's primary address. Can you please fix this? With regards, Wil... ADI Global Netgear Distributor

I think it's completely ridiculous that Insight does not allow for more flexible SNMP configurations. I can go into Insight and set an "SNMP Trap" for a location, which actually sets SNMP. However, it only supports one, has arbitrary requirements on it (specific snmp community requirements, such as have a special character for one), doesn't let you use anything that is considered a network address for a /24 network (i.e, 10.0.1.0, which is a valid host address for 10.0.0.0/23), doesn't allow multiple community strings, etc. Ideally, it should allow you to set things the same way as the local page for snmp, if I want to allow an entire subnet to be able to SNMP probe a device, I have to turn Insight off, configure SNMP, then turn Insight back on. The settings stay and continue working, so there's 0 reason they could not be applied directly via insight.
