DHCP Problems - Wireless Clients Wait On DHCP

I've got FSM7328PS Stack of 3 switches and then a forth FSM7352S.

I've got 2 Cisco Aironet 1130AG WAP setup on VLAN 100.

I've got the DHCP setup for that VLAN with basic settings.

The problem I have is that wireless clients are not getting DHCP addresses quick enough.

If I have a laptop I can go into command prompt and do an ipconfig/renew after the DHCP request times out and usually after 1-2 times of ipconfig/renew the switch will finally give out an address.

I've had problems with LLDP messing with my Shoretel phones so I have that disabled on all the ports.

The newest problems is that I bought some Android tablets and they are not getting dhcp addresses either.

The WAP are on stack switch 2 ports 6 and 10. VLAN 100 is native.

I am running latest 7.3.1.7 firmware on all stack switches.

This issue has been a problem the last 2 years.

Please help me.

Re: DHCP Problems - Wireless Clients Wait On DHCP

What I had to do to solve this was the following:
System -> Services -> DHCP Server Configuration..... Make sure "Ping Packet Count" is set to zero.

No one has been able to explain what this "feature" is for.

Re: DHCP Problems - Wireless Clients Wait On DHCP

thanks for replying.

I found that yesterday and changed it to zero wondering what it was for too...

Upgraded firmware on the 1130 AG this morning.

Both that has been done and no change in performance.

Android tablets connect to the public non encrypted fine.

If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

Thanks so much!

Re: DHCP Problems - Wireless Clients Wait On DHCP

I had an Aironet a while back that gave me problems. I remember having to turn off a feature in it. It was expecting to talk with other Cisco devices using Cisco's proprietary protocol.

Re: DHCP Problems - Wireless Clients Wait On DHCP

Thanks again for your help.

I finally just turned off DHCP for the VLAN and then turned on DHCP in the Cisco WAP.

Seems to be working fine.

If you find that setting to turn off, let me know. Always interested in learning more!
