GS305E out of box operation

Can someone tell me if this switch will work, out-of-the-box, as a dumb switch?

It doesn't seem to.

I logged into admin page, changed password.  Ports seems to be active.

But still none of the downstream clients can get on the network.

I wanted to buy this switch to upgrade the configuration later if my application required it.

For now, I just need a switch.  Did I purchase the wrong product?

Yes, it's operating as a normal switch serving one network.

Wih the link LED active on either end, the L2 is very likely operational.

Should the switch be connected to eg. a Cable Modem or another device allowing one device only one device, the other Devices won't get an IP address assigned, so no L3 traffic possible.
