In no way I'm an official Netgear person, neither here, nor elsewhere. I'm just yet another customer here.
My answer is based on other users which have requested to replace fans on a switch, and Netgear gave a clear statement to use the warranty instead - and anything else will void the device warranty.

Wow, that's all? Must be from reverse engineering resources, unlikely Netgear official. So share the details like the fan specs required (speed regulation system, tach signal, ...), and the wiring - this is what community is for.

Considering that I have exact specs for the fan installed, these are the specs Netgear requires in this switch, so we can be sure that because replacement exceeds specs of the original, the switch will get sufficient cooling across all load profiles.
FLX fans have 3 cables (RED or GREEN) for power, BLACK for ground and (YELLOW or BLUE) for speed control. Make sure your fan wiring matches the layout of the original fan and if it does not - change pins to match. Pins are very easy to swap.

Schumaku, the fan is a 3 pin connector, it's about as complicated as your power outlet, there are coded pins and there are defined roles for each
I understand that your inclination is to discourage people from doing the change, but what you don't seem to understand is that Netgear installs loud fans that get overtime get louder and louder, airflow performance of these fans is average and Netgear according to you not only does not care it also prohibits customers from solving this issue.
To be frank, I do not see this thread as community discussion, you have not contributed here, its basically me posting information I asked for while dealing with your demeaning, skeptical and discouraging comments of why what I want, cannot, or should not be done. I think you should reflect on that as you appear to be an active member here and I am sure you want to help people.
I was just wondering if you were successful in replacing the original fan with one from Noctua. I tried doing the same thing and the replacement fan comes on for a couple of seconds when I first plug in the switch, but then it slows to a stop and the fan light comes on. Not sure what is wrong.
