Link UP/Down events on select inactive ports M4100-24G-POE+

We recently included this device in our SNMP moitoring system

Every few seconds ports report Link UP/Iink DOWN on ports not yet connected to any devices. The other oddity is that some report this more frequently than others.  For example

Port 14 - every few secomds

Port 9 - a few times a day

Firmware Ver : 10.0.1.27

UPtime           : 484 days 23 hours 40 mins 57 secs

Is ther a known issue here, we receive thousands of emails a day from the SNMP alerts, and I dont want to diable notifications in case one is genuine.  What do I do here?

Re: Link UP/Down events on select inactive ports M4100-24G-POE+

Hi @mbkitmgr3

Welcome to the community!

May I ask some quesiton for further more analysis this problem?

1. As the image of the switch M4100 is too old in your network, could you please upgrade to latest image and try again?  new iamge download link is image

2. If the problem still occur after upgrade image, Could you please provide the tech-support file of the switch for further more analysis?

How do I send tech-support files from my Managed Switch to NETGEAR community moderators?

Re: Link UP/Down events on select inactive ports M4100-24G-POE+

Hi EricZ,

Thanks for your assistance with this task.

I was able to arrange an outage last night to update the firmware V10.2.0.26.  From a check this morning the behaviour hasn't changed.

I also receive advice from the device when I try to obtain the Tech Support log that it "is either empty or not found".  Is there something in the config of the switch that I have missed for the device to report this.

I have downloaded any log/scripts/configs etc that would succeed and will submit them via the method requested

Hi @mbkitmgr3,

You can run CLI command as 'show tech-support' first on console port or telnet port, and try again.

Hope it helps!

Re: Link UP/Down events on select inactive ports M4100-24G-POE+

Hi @mbkitmgr3

Thanks for your immediately response, I got the tech-support file.

And there is port flapping for port 0/9 as below:

1 Mar 15 02:17:58 2018 Link Up: 0/9
2 Mar 15 02:17:54 2018 Link Down: 0/9
3 Mar 15 02:16:56 2018 Link Up: 0/9
4 Mar 15 02:16:52 2018 Link Down: 0/9
5 Mar 15 02:16:19 2018 Link Up: 0/9
6 Mar 15 02:16:16 2018 Link Down: 0/9
7 Mar 15 02:16:09 2018 Link Up: 0/9
8 Mar 15 02:16:07 2018 Link Down: 0/9

As the port not connect any device, maybe it's hardware issue.

Two suggestion for you:

1. Do factory default for the switch, and see if it still happen or not?

2. It would be best that you open an online case with Netgear Support for further assistance. If it's hardware issue, support will replace new one to you.

Hope it helps!

Re: Link UP/Down events on select inactive ports M4100-24G-POE+

HI Eric,

Lodged a support request, had a remote support session with a Tech Support rep from NetGear.  He didnt agree that there was an issue.  We have elected to retire the device as a spare.

Thank you for your help
