M4100-26G DHCP Relay with VLANs

M4100-26G DHCP Relay with VLANs

I have an M4100-26G (192.168.87.9) with three VLANs and a Nighthawk AX4 RAX40 (192.168.87.1).

I need to provide DHCP to devices on all three VLANs and I'm trying to use the RAX40 as my DHCP server.

I don't want traffic routed between the VLANs.

It would be nice if a computer or tablet could connect to the RAX40 and control devices on all three VLANs, but that's not a requirement.

The RAX40 is plugged into a port on VLAN1. DHCP works great in VLAN1. Devices on VLAN1 can also access the internet (through the RAX40). Computers and tablets can connect to devices on VLAN1.

Nothing on VLAN2 or VLAN3 sees the DHCP server on the RAX40.

I found this document in another forum thread and did the steps starting on p.330 to add DHCP Relay.

https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/M4100/M4100_SWA_v10-0-1_26Mar2015.pdf

Here are some some screenshots from the M4100.

From what I understand, this should be the address of my DHCP server, the RAX40.

It looks like the M4100 is receiving DHCP requests, but it is not relaying them.

Do I need Circuit ID Option Mode enabled if I want all DHCP requests to go to the RAX40?

Does enabling DHCP L2 Relay here turn it 'on' for the entire VLAN?

Does Circuit ID Mode need to be enabled?

Why does the procedure ask me to enter 'rmt_id' under Remote ID String?

If the Global Configuration is enabled for the VLAN, do I need to enable it on each of the ports as well?

Do I need 82 Option Trust Mode enabled?

Any help is greatly appreciated. 🙂

Re: M4100-26G DHCP Relay with VLANs

Hi

Regarding enabling it on the ports as well: No, if you got it enabled on the VLAN there is no need to enable it on individual ports.

Regarding routing: For every VLAN you want the switch to do DHCP relaying you also need an IP address assigned on the switch. Without an IP address the switch is not able to communicate with the DHCP clients on the individual VLANs.
