NO internet access after assigning ports to VLAN

Hi,

We purchased a new switch GS752TPv3 model.

I created vlans and assigned ports to the vlan and also assign PVID after assigning the ports to the vlan no internet connection on those ports except on the default vlan 1.

I searched a lot but did find an answer.

please if some one can help me to setup this switch would be great.

Makes about sense. However, the inter-VLAN-routing needs to be configured, the  Much easier and more customer friendly are routers (typically from the small bussines range) supporting multiple local subnets, multiple VLANs, and last but not least a DHCP server or service for each VLAN.

-Kurt.

PS. This isn't a Managed Switch model, much more a Smart Managed Switch to be discussed in the Plus and Smart Switches Forum section - I'll request moderator to move your thread accordingly.

Re: NO internet access after assigning ports to VLAN

Hi Schumaku,

Thank you so much for your reply. fully understood.

I just need one help from you or any other members in this forum.

Default IP address of the switch.

We have created valns in the router: the router we are using Draytek 2927ax.

From the router port one is connected to this switch.

as usual default IP address is 192.168.1.1

192.168.1.2 and 192.168.3 used by our NEC VOIP telephone system.

soon as I connected the switch to the router the switch grabs the IP address of the telephone system 192.168.1.2 so my telephone system is down.

I don't want the switch to get an IP address using the DHCP server.

I want to assign an IP address or keep the default IP address.

I know that from the management section I can change from  DHCP  to static IP address.

See below image:

If I changed to Static IP address and assign a IP will the whole switch change to Static IP address or only the login IP to the switch will change?

This isn't  switch problem, much more caused by the lazy or non-existing management of your router.

The first thing you -must- do when statically assigning LAN IP addresses on your network - first for the VoIP system  - is to add MAC-IP reservations for the to addresses in use for the VOIP system (add the relevant MAC addresses and the VOIP LAN IP address to the DHCP pool, even if the VoIP system does not mke use of DHCP. -Alternate- configure the router DHCP server to start from 192.168.1.5 or .10 (so .1 ... .9 remain free for static device config, like the switch you coud put statically eg. to 192.168.1.4.

Good roule of thumb when you want to configure a fixed LAN IP is to let the device use DHCP, so adding a reservtion on most routers is much easier and less prone to typo error. In your case - assuming .4 .. .9 are not in use in use, so set DHCP pool starting address to .4, and let the switch fetching a DHCP address, hoping it will fetch .4 (or change the DHCP MAC-IP table to the .4 and the switch MAC IP), then refresh the DHCP client on the switch, or reboot time and usage permitting.

Yes, a bad policy, but useful to start with newly added network devices or polices you want static IP addresses.

Bad idea, how would you manage the switch then?

Feel free, but s said add a MAC-IP address pair for the switch

In the first interation, it does set the switch admin interface only

Lot of work, but a good time to make it happen on a "free" Sunday. 8-)

I'll continue watching this space for you, but have to rush to a new site installtion for a customer, doing the similar process as described here 8-)

Regards,

-Kurt.
