No Internet access, MS305

Ref.: Netgear MS305 5 port Multi-Gigabit 2.5G Ethernet Unmanaged Switch.

I've recently switched over from one internet provider to another.

Classic config: router - LAN connection boxes (cabled, cat. 6) + router - Netgear MS305 switch (cabled, cat. 6) - computers and other devices (TV, printer, etc.; cabled, cat. 6).

Worked perfectly, until recently, when 2 telephone lines (from my old provider) were added.

The config with the switch in between will not provide Internet access via my cabled network.

When I connect a computer directly to the router, I have full Internet access, but as soon as I put the switch in between, it fails.

Also, the WiFi booster connected with a cable to the switch, does not work.

Now, I only have Internet access via WiFi.

What can I do?

Is there something I can do to change one or more settings on the router or on the switch?

What should I ask my provider to do?

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Frank

Hello Frank

Accidentally looped one or both of these unspecified phone lines into what should be working Ethernet links?

Switch power adapter connected and plugged?

LEDs on the switch checked? 5-port Multi-Gigabit 2.5G Ethernet Unmanaged Switch MS305 Installation Guide

The uplink to the router LAN port as well as each device connected (and powered):

Both port LEDs for a 2.5GbE link, left port LED only for a 1 GbE link, right port LED only for a Fast Ethernet link.

This is it. Merry Xmas!

Re: No Internet access, MS305

Dear Schumaku,

Thank you for your feedback and help.

The router has the following ports/connections:

  • 4 X Ethernet ports
  • 2 X telephone ports
  • 1 X coax connection
  • 1 X power connection
  • 1 X (power) on-off switch

I've switched off the router, unplugged the power adapter, waited for 5 min., reconnected the power adapter, switched the router back on and waited for 10 min. (to allow for the booting sequence). Results: no internet access via cabled LAN network, WiFi works (when selected).

Same procedure with the telephone lines unplugged on the router, produces the same results.

The LEDs on the switch are OK:

  • Power LED: solid green.
  • Both port LEDs: either solid green (2.5 Gbps link on this port) or blinking green (2.5 Gbps activity on this port).
  • Other ports: either left or right LEDs and either solid green or blinking green (activity of older computers and devices).

In the settings section of the router I have regarding the DHCPv6 server the option to choose between "Stateful (DHCPv6)" and "Stateless (SLAAC)":

It is currently set to "Stateless (SLAAC)".

Could setting it to "Stateful (DHCPv6)" solve the problem?

Is there any other setting I should check?

Thanks again for your help.

Best regards,

Frank
