Support for the 10gbs M4300 Switches is Impressive! - Cable Amos - Case Study
Hi NETGEAR Business Community
NETGEAR business networking products are used around the world for small and medium businesses. We recently reached out to a few of end customers to ask them how they use NETGEAR SMB Products for their small and medium businesses. We discovered some awesome people, products and uses cases and wanted to share them with you here in the NETGEAR Community.
Télédistribution Amos is a digital cable television and Internet service provider located in Quebec. We sought to understand how they use the M4300 Series switched in their ultra high-speed fiber-optic Internet service business connecting nearly 20,000 subscribers to cable TV and Internet.
Due to its growing success, Télédistribution Amos has sought to expand its Ethernet switching capacity for its fiber customers. We found that today Amos uses 1-gigabit NETGEAR M4100 Series managed switches to directly connect its customers and uses a 10-gigabit M4300 Series switch as the gateway to aggregate flows and manage VLANs. This means that each customer has their own virtual network that is completely separate from other companies, guaranteeing the security of their data and enabling them to customize their service more easily.
To expand their distribution and coverage Télédistribution Amos found our NETGEAR 96-port, 10-gigabit M4300-96X modular switch.
Amos filled up the 96-port switch in 12 modules, and 64 of the 96 fiber ports are currently in use. The company is extremely pleased with the capacity of its new fiber network

Re: Support for the 10gbs M4300 Switches is Impressive! - Cable Amos - Case Study
If the 8X8F could support iSER in some fashion then you guys did create a solid product. We love the 8X and 12X switches for our small SMB customers that only have 2 to 3 VMware hosts and we need a small density switch that can be multi-roled either as a dedicated collpased core switch (for Edge and 10G LACP uplinks from VMware hosts) mated with the larger M4300-52G's that are setup in a L2 stack for the normal LAN traffic and then a switch that can do iSCSI loads on a OOB setup for purely iSCSI and vMotion traffic. We are using the 8X and 12X throughout many of our customers and they work great!
Used to be a Cisco guy for a while and these new switches are making me see Netgear in a new light.
I only wish the 8X would support iSER like the 12X does so that our customer can take advantage of QNAP NAS arrays that now employ iSER that use PFC as one of the key requirements of switches. If this could be made available we could see alot of traction with these switches. It's nice to see Netgear is the 1st yet again with enterprise-grade small density switches that aren't lacking in features. 😄
