Switch crashed hard and it will not load the new firmware

Greetings and good morning to all,

I need your assistance to this urgent matter.  Our switch crashed extremely hard that it lost the previous firmware.  So bad that I do not get the boot menu after you press and hold the Q key.  I loaded Hyper Terminal and transfer the latest and greatest firmware using ymodem settings.  Once it finished, it's asking various questions that I cannot find the answer on Google or other search engine; not even YouTube -> yes, surprisingly....

Any assistance on using the proper command syntax to mount volume and to load the iamge is greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Switch crashed hard and it will not load the new firmware

Register your switch in My Netgear and open a case via Chat. This should work even after the 90d initial support as that's part of their lifetime warranty. You are stuck in u-boot and although there are likely ways for outsiders to guesstimate a way into getting either an image booted from the secondary partition I wouldn't lightheartedly mingle in U-Boot since you are still eligible to support.

If you get this fixed with their help, sharing your solution would be appreciated. Possibly they send you a new switch instead if it takes to long for them to fix this.

I could imagine that sending them outputs of the following commands including your error message might be helpful for a quicker diagnose:

  • printenv
  • fsinfo
  • ls
  • version

printenv in U-Boot gives some information about boot arguments. There are different ways within U-Boot in order to boot or load an OS in another fashion that can but don't need to be specific to this switch. This is knowledge Netgear support hopefully should have since that is specific to their switch.

Re: Switch crashed hard and it will not load the new firmware

Hi @jamwil21

Sorry about your issue. As you may know this forum is not handled by the Technical Support, but a Community. Issues like yours should definitely require official Technical Support help. I am not sure if you have registered your switch at mynetgear.com and opened a case already. Please send me the serial number of your switch as well as your complete contact details via MP. I'll go to our Technical Support organization with it and make a request for an agent to contact you asap.

Thank you,
