Keeps reverting to "Recents" playlist instead of selected playlist

My two-year old Meural now only shows the "Recents" playlist after the first image of a playlist I select.  I also cannot send a playlist to the canvas from "my Library".  I need to go to the "Canvas" tab and select the new playlist from there, and then I get the weird behavior after the first image of a new playlist.

So I have a similar problem with my Meural. I have just one playlist with 20 pictures. All formatted as portrait. Meural works fine for awhile then a black screen. I check the app and for no apparent reason the playlist has changed to recent.

any ideas how to correct this. It is extremely frustrating.
