Adding a R7800 to a R7450 For greater range - how do you set it up?

Our Modem is in garage and I have a R7450 plugged into it (spectrum's modem).

I have a R7800 in house that is plugged into R7450. Works ok but seems like we do not have the bandwidth. Is there something else I should be doing or do I have an internet problem or? My wife complains about the R7800 dropping signal all the time (on her Iphone and on desktop).

I have 2 routers because house is wrapped in foil (under siding) for energy savings. It kills the signal. I have a home office in garage so I need wifi in both places.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Some more details.

1. what modem do you have?

2. what firmware is on the R7450?
3. And on the R7800?

4. Are you using smart connect on the routers?

5. Do you have the ssid's named the same on the 2 routers (if so, make them seperate)

6. Is the R7800 in AP mode?

7. Do you have the 2 routers wifi channels on different channels to prevent interference?

8. What happens if you swap the 2 routers and have the R7800 right off the modem and the R7450 in the house?

I doubt if the modem is an "LTE" modem that connects you to the mobile/cell phone network. (Not normally something that you'd put in a garage.) If it isn't, and it is a standard cable/DSL modem, this is not the best place to seek help.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Nighthawk WiFi Routers

Whatever the modem, it is unwise to a R7800 to a R7450 if they are both operating as routers.

Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.
