Hide Nighthawk M2 model wi-fi username and password

I can’t hide the Netgear Nighthawk Wi-Fi username and password. I also have the M1 model, and to hide those details it’s a simple tick box that stops the details being displayed on the LCD. If I select the same option on the M2 it only masks the username and password with asterixis, but if you click those asterixis on the LCD the username and password is revealed.

Can anyone recommend a solution, please? It’s a real security issue and seems crazy/pointless having the hide function when tapping the LCD reveals the masked details.

Thanks.

Hi @Racy

Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

I would like to get more details of your device.

What is the exact model number of your device?

What is the firmware version?

With FW NTGX24_10.13.09.00, you can disable displaying the detail on LCD by SETTINGS->Setup->Wireless and uncheck "Display info on LCD", then you won't see the detail on LCD. This is done from Web GUI, not on the LCD itself.

Re: Hide Nighthawk M2 model wi-fi username and password

I agree the option is there, it was through the Web GUI I unticked “Display info on LCD”, but it does not remove the detail on the LCD, it only masks the username and password (which can be unmasked simply by tapping them) as per my original post.

I have an M1 on the unticking the box works perfectly, but the M2, in my opinion, has a serious security flaw.

Yes, you are right about LCD info which can be retrived easily by tapping the screen, even disable it from Web GUI. This would need to have Netgear to fix it.

Re: Hide Nighthawk M2 model wi-fi username and password

Recently purchased two of these devices and this security flaw is a MAJOR issue which needs to be addressed immediately.
I have the devices sitting in our office and anyone who can walk up and tap on the screen can access our WiFi.

I might as well print the password and post it in our lunch room for all to see!

I will never purchase a Netgear product for our business!

I have 3 of these devices and suffer the same security flaw - is anyone from Netgear able to respond to this thread with an update on this issue?
