MR6500 Issues
We’ve been using the MR6500 as a home internet router for about a month now. Been having overheat problems almost from the start. Running no battery, plugged in, back cover off. Out in the open with good air flow. Firmware updated. Factory reset performed. Strong signal strength. When a laptop is turned on it shuts the router down. Was really hoping this was going to be a viable option for internet as it is way cheaper than cable internet in our area. Frustrated and wondering if anyone has any insight or experience with this. Thank you!

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
Mobile Routers, Hotspots & Modems
Those things are very different from the standard Netgear routers covered in this section.
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
Check for various troubleshooting tips.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Re: MR6500 Issues
suggest to get a better charger, with QC3.0, instead of using original one.

Re: MR6500 Issues
Having exact same problem. Had unit replace by ATT yesterday and same issue with new one. Runs for a little while and then freezes up. Took battery out and it worked a little bit better but not for long.

Re: MR6500 Issues
We have even tried blowing a fan on it, with the battery out, and it still overheats as soon as you link a laptop to it. ATT told us to call tech support. Tech support says that this is the first time that they have heard about this problem. Yet when you enter “mr6500 overheats” into Google, 6 complaints come up.

Re: MR6500 Issues
Hi @Jimv8656
May we please know the device SKU (e.g. MR6500-1A1NAS)? This can be checked on the box of the product or on the barcode label.
What is the firmware version?
Please describe your network setup. How many devices connected?

Re: MR6500 Issues
@Jimv8656 @xoubie Please provide your network setup with your devices. Please also also advise the FW version on your devices.
1. How many WiFi clients?
2. Ethernet is enabled and used?
3. What is the laptop's brand and model used?
4. A WiFi router connected to the Ethernet port or a laptop?
Thanks
John
