Why do you want to use USB?
For example, try to reflash the router if it does not boot.

Do you have a device that will not boot?
Or is this a theoretical exercise?
If a device does not boot, that is not always, if ever, down to broken firmware., Messing around with it could get into deeper trouble.
Mobile routers may be different, but for most modems and routers the manual update process uses TFTP and and Ethernet connection.

By the way M2 is not a Netgear model number. That would be something like MR2100.
