Hi Case850,

Shall we get back on topic?  Please open a new post on your concerns with the documentation.

Kind Regards,

We are right on the topic. As of writing, there are still no MR1100 M1 USB tethering drivers available for download on the URL.

The same applies to the absent firmware release notes (at least) covering the enhanced Ethernet port usage as a WAN (tethering) port. How should a tech minded person help an elderly friend without this information?

Should the Telstra M1 version require a different driver, different documentation, different user handling, it's up to Telstra to provide the download - and depending on the contract also the support.

Hi schumaku,

As stated previously.  We appreciate your feedback.  We will get the documentation updated to mention that Ethernet port can be used for both LAN/WAN.  The USB tethering drivers are actually Windows RNDIS drivers and should not require a user to manually install any drivers.  @DrDunc's XP machine may not have this driver available for some reason.  The driver download I provided was to assist @DrDunc with a workaround.  This issue will be investigated.  In some cases we need to work with the user who reported the issue directly to further investigate and then report on the resolution to the wider community.  At times it can be challenging to troubleshoot and diagnose via replies to forum posts as some messages may get buried under other user responses and gets missed.  This is why I prefer PM.  We will work with @DrDunc and get to the bottom of their issue.

Regards,

ArodiD

The downloaded drivers (http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/aircard/AC790S_Zain/Driver%20package%204.3.0.0.exe) did the trick. Just unplugged the device, installed the drivers, plugged the device back in and voila, Windows recognises it correctly. Having succeeded, I didn't bother attempting the ethernet connection and am happy with the solution. Thanks ArodiD for the link and thanks everyone else for your contirbutions.

The point that you don't get is that I and may others will not buy a product with a Telstra(or any other Carrier) logo on it. The Carriers provide poor support and add no value. In most cases it is just a way of locking in the customers.

Can't speak for your market downunder - here in Europe you won't see an obvious difference in the boxing, labeling, and nowadays software of carrier provided quality brand devices - which are most coming with SIM locks. Based on the IMEI/Serial numbers, the "ownership" is checked on the network side.
