January 28 is Data Privacy Day - #PrivacyAware
Each year, Data Privacy Day is observed annually on January 28. Led by the National Cyber Security Alliance in North America, its effort is to educate the public and stimulate increased awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data, and enabling trust. As data breaches continue to become more common we want to do our part to help ensure everyone’s data stays secure.
Data Privacy at Home
Ensuring you own your privacy at home starts by practicing safe online habits. Speaking with family members about ways to stay safer online helps create awareness about its importance and makes them mindful of consequences. Because we are connected more than ever through mobile devices and smart home/IoT devices, we constantly share information that may be shared, whether we know it or not.
Here are a few tips to help protect your privacy from staysafeonline.org:
Personal info is like money: Value it. Protect it. – Be thoughtful about who gets your information and how it’s collected through apps and websites. You should delete unused apps, keep others current, and review app permissions.
Share with care – Be careful about what you post online about yourself and others. Consider what it reveals, who might see it, and how it could be perceived now and in the future.
Own your online presence – Set the privacy and security settings on websites and apps to your comfort level for information sharing. Each device, application, or browser you use will have different features to limit how and with whom you share information.
