Should you talk of the EX2700 - N300 WiFi Range Extender - no, this is a pure 802.11n 2.4 GHz wireless extender, uplink to the router as well as the clients make use of the 2.4 GHz band only.

From the NETGEAR N300 WiF Range Extender Model EX2700 User Manual, p.40 FAQ:
"Can I connect the extender to the router or access point with an Ethernet cable? No. The extender is designed to use WiFi to connect to the router or access point."
Unless an Access Point mode was added with a newer firmware - during a scratch installation there would be an option asking to configure as a Wireless Extender or as a Wireless Access Point - this limitation does still apply.
