RND4000 (ReadyNAS NV+

Hi,

My ReadyNAS RND400 has died for some reason.  Netgear send me an replacement board last year after the unit died at that time.   I cannot seem to get access to this support unit this time around.

If I was to buy another unit, has to be a four disk unit I guess, will the drives work?  I see on https://community.netgear.com/t5/New-ReadyNAS-Users-General/ReadyNAS-RND4000-Move-HDD-into-another-I... that they will work but the RND4000 is not available in UK to the best of my knowledge.

Anyone know how to contact Netgear Support directly?

Hi @TommyRND4000

Welcome to the Community!

ReadyNAS NV+ or RND4000 is already discontinued (EOL) and is replaced by the OS 6 models like the RN400 series and up.

Inserting your drives on the same unit will just need to be booted normally and your data should be accessible after a successful boot. The problem might be with finding a good working unit on a reasonable price point. IMO, it is much better if you upgrade your unit and have Support assist you on getting your Data back though Data recovery services might be needed. You can check this article on migrating the data from a Legacy NAS to OS 6 NAS.

You can contact Support through your MyNETGEAR portal, just login and register your device and create a Support case.

Hope this helps!

Regards

Re: RND4000 (ReadyNAS NV+

Hi Marc_V and community,

Thank you Marc_V for the previous response.

I read that by using the new OS6 that I could get the data off my old drives.  So I bought a ReadyNAS 214.

I have followed the instructions on https://kb.netgear.com/29875/ReadyNAS-Migrating-disks-from-RAIDiator-to-OS-6  and on https://kb.netgear.com/29957/ReadyNAS-Migrating-disks-from-RAIDiator-4-2-to-ReadyNAS-OS-6-x86  I have installed the drives and booted the NAS.

The instructions on https://kb.netgear.com/29957/ReadyNAS-Migrating-disks-from-RAIDiator-4-2-to-ReadyNAS-OS-6-x86 indicate that a UI called Frontview will open, read the old drives and allow the data to be copied to an external drive that has sufficient storage.  NAS OS6 is reporting that the drives combined have 3.64TB of storage.  I have a new 4TB USB3.1 drive to receive the data.  I know that the old drives were not full so there should be ample space.

I understand the Frontview UI is accessed via the address given by DHCP, for exampe 192.168.1.2.  Is this correct?

My final question is how do I access the data?

Tommy.
