Vulnerability scan triggers HP printer to print pages
Hi all. It appears that the Armor vulnerability scan always causes my HP Laser printer to print three pages, containing a client version or similar. E.g. curl and version number or so. I'm quite s...
- Jun 18, 2020Now I have been running 2.5.1.16 for quite some time and so far not a single page has been printed out.
So perhaps this update finally fixed the issue.
Finally. Thanks.

I also think it is responsible for flickering (and ultimately bricking) one of my LIFX Color 1000 bulbs. And any other WiFi connected lights.

I have a couple of LIFX bulbs too and thankfully haven't had that issue! Trial expired so will now remain deactivated. Might give it a go another day if they sort the printing.
- Adrian97cJan 04, 2020ApprenticeI’m really impressed with Netgear tech support! All I did was post here that I was having the printing problem & they reached out & helped me fix my issue... I’m running RBR20 (Router) & RBS20 (sats). It’s been 3 days since updating to the HOTFIX firmware (first on sats, then router).... no more wasted paper/ink!

I've been having the same issue. Came back from a trip to a small stack of paper in my printer. Is the hotfix firmware available? Or it this issue solved in RBR50 firmware version 2.5.1.8?
Thanks!
- haroldsoJan 12, 2020AspirantI am having the same issue. NETGEAR support please come with a hotfix!

Hi all, this has been reported to engineering and is currently being worked on. We will provide an update once available.

Is there an ETA by when this issue will be resolved? I have been having the same issue since I enabled Netgear armor security.

Not holding my breath on this and tbh not that bothered anymore, I have not renewed subscription as a result.
- Mark382Jan 17, 2020InitiateI now have a stack of curl/7.59 printed paper.
Please fix this ASAP. - Adrian97cJan 17, 2020ApprenticeI was told I was the only RB20 that has reported the print issue, they have only confirmed the RB50 to have the issue, so if you have RB20 I need you to reach out, so they can see this issue isn’t isolated to just the RB50.
- RthurberFeb 04, 2020AspirantI have the RBR20 and have the printing issue as a result of the vulnerability scan as well. Need a hotfix to stop the wasting of ink and paper.

Look at the start date of this thread and others like it. Clearly not a high priority for Netgear to fix. I didn't bother subscribing after trial and didn't see much value in the service anyway. If you're interested in this sort of thing and have the time/skills look at running openvas on docker on your network.

Hi all, this is still being worked on by engineering.

- SurffaMar 12, 2020ApprenticeI just got an email from Bitdefender support to my ticket there stating that a new Orbi Firmware should fix this issue.
Let's see when it arrives, at least in my case there is no new firmware available yet. - Adrian97cMar 26, 2020ApprenticeSadly RBR20 still has no FW fix

Hello Adrian97c,
We recently released a new FW for the RBR/RBS20. Please refer to the link below.

- Adrian97cMar 27, 2020ApprenticeSorry, but I’m been running 2.3.5.36 which is a higher FW.... it was sent to me months ago from a tech support agent.
The bug fix notes on the link you provided doesn’t mention printing issue. So which is most recent? .36 or .30? - sendit_y0daMar 27, 2020Aspirant
how do I unsubscribe from this thread? I am not interested in this anymore.
edit: figured it out :) bye
thx

.30 was distributed (at least to me) just a few days ago. I know that .36 has been available as a HOT FIX release for ages, so I was also surprised to see .30 coming out now.
So I would tend to say that .30 is way newer release, but maybe then feature wise it's stripped version of the .36. I can't explain the numbering any other way.
Anyway. .30 release notes don't mention anything about Armor updates, or barely anything useful at all. So it's hard to tell what's the real difference there.

Ah btw. My weekly scheduled vulnerability scan is due on Sunday. I was planning to keep the printer on this time to see if there's any difference. I'll give another post afterwards.

Updated firmware to 2.5.1.8. Had to do it manually as the in-app update no longer functions (iPhone). So far so good re the four junk pages printing. However, my toner ran out on Sunday and UPS was only able to get my "next day" shipment here on Friday (today). So, I missed Wednesday this week when my scan normally takes place. Will know for certain this worked next week. Good luck all.
