BR500 Rackmount - Connectors to the Rack Front, LED to the Back?
Hello @YeZ,
During yesterday BR500 Webinar it was taken note (thank you, better late than never) that the rack mount does not look smart, and that the LED would be visible, while the cables are in the back of the rack.
According to the marketing photos, the screw holes for the rack mount wings are in the back, along with the connectors. This would mean the connectors are on the front and none of the LED would be visible usually - this is the view with the unit in a rack:
As most SOHO and small business racks are comm cabinets and wall mounted, it must be more than strange.
Why on earth this router has - following some consumer "requirements", and very different from the Insight GC switches and Insight WAC -does this BR500 need a power button? And those pain-in-the-back-I-don't-know-where-to-put-it external power bricks (yes, I know an internal power supply requires some more certification work - but the BOM is lower.
Gee Netgear - this looks and feels like a random router OEM board quickly and carelessly wrapped into a metal enclosure. The Insight switch product managers on the other hand seem to understand the business and concept of rack mounting. Look here - thus is the appropriate good industrial design for rack mount:
Power and could status LED duplicated on the chocolate side:
Hint: Send some hardware to Switzerland for Alpha and Beta testing. Or include a free offering one of these dentist mirrors - to see the system LEDs.... Curious when we can get a BR500v2. Oh, ideally there would be screw holes for the rack mount wings in the front and in the back, so all installation options would be available. Pure chocolate, or cable view.
