BTRFS - Readynas OS 6 VM Guests & Snapshots

Is it possible to reliably take snapshots of live VMware guests running on ReadyNas OS 6? Also, what is the performance like when compared to existing ReadyNAS devices (E516 vs ??) and is NFS the best option for creating VMWare guests on OS6?

Finally, are there plans to release lager rack-mount devices with dual power supply units etc?

Re: BTRFS - Readynas OS 6 VM Guests & Snapshots

Taking snapshots of live VMware guests is reliable. Only the snapshot index is saved at the time of the snapshot. All the data is already being stored, so no additonal capacity is required and very little processing effort. A snapshot whitepaper and more example/how-to videos will be posted.

Performance benchmarks are being finalized now and performance data should be published in the next week.

NFS vs. iSCSI is a difficult debate. Probably best left to vmware experts in the forum. But ReadyNAS will support both deployment options. You can snapshot the data in both cases.

No comment on future products.

All sounding good!

It's a pity I can't upgrade my 2100 to OS 6, but that's another discussion point...

Thanks.

Has anyone tested snapshots of VMware guests and subsequently rolling back to the snapshot? Does one need to shutdown the guest or quiesce before the snapshot is taken?
