Can't log in to ReadyNAS 104 after latest update

Hello Everyone,

Thank you in advance for any help with my issue. I am a neophyte regarding NAS and my ReadyNAS 104. Have used it since new for many years. I don't recall the last time I updated firmware, so cannot recall the previous version. Updated today to 6.10.7 and it will not let me log in as admin as it always has done in the past. What are my options for getting in and resetting my password? If I have to, I am willing to reset entire device and loose my data if that will allow me to reset a password and reload my data.

In checking the Internet regarding this situation, I saw a synopsis of an article stating that one should not update from 6.3.x to 6.10.7 without two interim updates loaded first. NetGear's window informing me that an update was available didn't explain that to me; it merely told me an update was available. When I saw it was available, I clicked on "update". The unit hums along so well that I rarely ever enter it, not even to back up data. It is my last backup, hence my neophyte status. I stream music and manually backup photos and documents, that's the extent of my use.

In case it helps to know, it is attached to my network via ethernet and wifi. I use a MacBook, and an Apple WiFi router.

Any instructions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

MJ17

Re: Can't log in to ReadyNAS 104 after latest update

I used the first two password recovery methods, several times both before and after a "gentle shut down", per the NetGear instructions, and all attempts with the first two methods resulted in a terminally-spinning progress wheel. Finally, I used the third method, Boot Mode > OS Reinstall method and it worked. Got in via default password, "password" and was able to successfully reset my password.

Thank you, Michael, for your link.

Sincerely,

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge. In your case, we aren't talking about routers, the subject for this section.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

ReadyNAS Network Storage: Official NETGEAR Community

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

No problem. This place is a mess. I didn't want you to think that people were ignoring your question.

Re: Can't log in to ReadyNAS 104 after latest update

Now I understand the reason the password recovery via email didn't work; I had updated my email password and neglected to update the password in my settings on the ReadyNAS, neophyte. The second option mentioned above, using the "Reset" button on back of unit is mutually exclusive between it and the email password reset option -either or but not both can be selected.

Thank you, again, Michael
