Note: I used to use ReadyCloud and were able to access my data remotely. Thank you for your help in advance. Ron

As I suspect you know, ReadyCloud is no longer an option.

That is not a good sign. Have you tried using RAIDar?
If you haven't installed it before, you will need to first install Java.

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
Hi, thanks so much for your advice. I've downloaded the oracle java 8 for MacOS program and the RAIDar 6.5. I can see the NAS storage is healthy for both disk. Please advise how to see the actual folders? Thank you!

- Can you access the admin web ui from RAIDar?
- What happens when you click on "browse"?

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
Hi Stephen, i am using Macbook now. The Help function said the Brower button only shown in Windows machine. Should i try in Windows machine?
Also, i've chosen "Offline LAN setup" button which took me to admin login page. After i entered the login account and password, it took me to an Initial Setup Wizard. There is a Next button on the screen. Should i press Next to proceed? Will this reformat my diskes? Thanks for your help in advance!

That sounds like the data might already be gone.
Maybe try browsing to https://nas-ip-address/admin. (nas-ip-address is a placeholder for the real NAS IP address you are seeing in RAIDar). Then log in as "admin', and use the NAS admin password. Don't use your old ReadyCloud username.

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
Thanks. I would try it at home today. But, i forget the Admin password (since the NAS was setup 5 years ago) and a message said that password recovery has not been setup in my NAS. Any idea how to recover the admin password. Or else, what would be the default password of the admin account in case I have not changed it at all? Thanks.

Note the only way to get into the web ui is to use the admin account. The default admin password is password.
You can reset the password by doing an OS reinstall from the boot menu. See page 89 of the hardware manual for a step-by-step.
The OS reinstall is only a partial reinstall. Data will not be affected. It will:
- reset the admin password back to password
- reset the network configuration to DHCP with no bonding
- disable volume quota (which can be re-enabled from the volume settings wheel).
FWIW, since the NAS admin password can be reset by anyone with physical access, you might consider putting the admin password on a label on the inside of the front door.

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
Thank you for your advice Stephen. I have reinstalled the OS successfully. And, i have resetted the admin password to default and able logged in to the system via admin account (https://192.168.0.xxx/admin). But, i still see the Welcome wizard which will walk me thru the initial setup should i press the "Next" button. Should I go thru this inital setup process which will assign the NAS name, alert email, etc. Would my data be lost as a result of it please?
Alternatively, should i just connect to the USB port of the NAS directly from the a computer to see if i could retrieve the data.
Thanks for your advice in advance.

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
You cannot access the NAS content via the USB port.
If you proceed with the wizard, you likely will lose any chance of data recovery (if there even still is one).

@Sandshark's is correct - it appears that the NAS thinks the volume is gone and the NAS is wanting to set everything up again.
The best strategy now is to look into RAID recovery.
You could get software like ReclaiMe (which supports both BTRFS and linux RAID), and install that on a Windows PC. Then connect one of the disks to the PC (either with SATA or with a USB adapter/dock) and see if it can recover your files. If it can, then purchase it. You will need enough storage to offload the data.
You could also reach out to a data recovery service and contract with them to recover your data.

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
Hi, Just to provide an update on the matter. I've passed the NAS storage to a service provider to scan the disk. They can read the disk but needs to recover my files. They are working on it now. I hope i could get the files back...

Re: Cannot sign on to ReadyNAS 422 to see the data
Further update: The service provider has recovered all my files and copied to an external HD. The service provider setup RAID 1 in my NAS and i could also access my NAS now and browse all my folders using my own NAS account. In any case, i would do regularly external backup of my NAS now. If same problem occures, again I wonder if I could went on to setup RAID 1 to see if could recover my files. Just for all information on the above. And, thank you very much for all you guys help on this!!

Your problem had unusual symptoms, so it's hard to say (and I think it is unlikely to occur again). Normally the GUI setup will create the volume from scratch, which would destroy your data.
But if you have a backup plan in place, then you can of course try it and see.
