Drive showing as dead after resync attempt
Two of the drives in my NVX Pioneer (4.2.19) were getting lots of SMART errors, so I replaced them with 2 Western Digital RE4 WD2003FYYS
The first replacement resynced fine. Once that was complete I put in the 2nd drive, and Frontview shows it started resyncing
However, I didn't get an Email alert to say it was complete, and now when I log into FrontView, the drive is simply showing as DEAD.
There are no further log entries in FrontView, other than saying "Data volume will be rebuilt with disk 1."
What is the best course of action now?

Re: Drive showing as dead after resync attempt
Probably you should test that drive with WD Lifeguard on a PC.

Re: Drive showing as dead after resync attempt
Also, since the array is compromised, make sure your backup is current and complete.

Re: Drive showing as dead after resync attempt
Thanks guys. The NAS in question is actually my backup NAS (serves no other purpose in life other than to receive an rsync of my main NAS).
I did resolve this eventually by rebooting the NAS, and it started resyncing the drive.
Its a bit worrying that it would refuse to resync just by hot plugging the drive though (tried repeatedly).
I do sometimes wonder why I've paid all this money for several ReadyNAS, when they seem as flaky as some linux box I've botched together myself 😞
