HDD > 2TB in RN NV+ (V1) ?

I'm growing my RN316 and will be pulling out some 3TB drives.

I have a RN NV+ which is limited to 2TB drives.

My understanding, of PCs, is that if you connect a larger drive, it works, but the capacity is limited to 2TB.

Is this the case with the NV+?

If so I'll keep the 3TBs as spares for it, otherwise I'll have to find them a good home.

No.  It will detect the wrong size (~900 GB I think).   So you can't use them there.

Hello Michael_Oz,

the NV+ v1 is a Sparc-based NAS.

GPT is not supported for Sparc processors as Linux development for Sparc stopped prior to the development of GPT support. As GPT is essential for more than 2TB support, Netgear would have to develop this - it is very unlikely to happen because product engineers are migrating from Sparc to ARM based Duo and NV+ ReadyNAS devices. This does not mean firmware development has stopped, just that the Sparc based NAS' hardware will be limited to 2TB drives.

Regards,
