Help on UPS Sizing...
I would like some help with understanding if my existing UPS will safely support the load I am wanting to put on it. I curently have an APC Back-UPS ES 750:

It is currently protecting my ReadyNAS NV, with 4x Seagate 500GB (model ST3500641AS). I intend to add a ReadyNAS Pro with 6x Seagate 2TB (model ST2000DL003).
What is the proper wattage/loading number to use for these NASes and how much 'headroom' should I leave?
I forgot to add, that I'll probably add a GS108 under UPS protection as well.

You are operating on the edge. The NV should have a 200W PSU and the Pro is listed as having a 300. That is a potential of 500 Watts through the PSUs of the two units and the Backups ES 750 is listed at 450 Watts. I think the load of the GS108 is negligable and we know that idle the NV and Pro combined have a listed draw about 55W for the NV and 83 for the Pro (with 500GB drives). Increasing the drive size will raise it a little but not a great deal.
Assuming the PSU is sized with a 100% overload factor you would get 100W for the NV and 150W for the Pro at max. for a total of 250 Watts.
I have a Backups NS1250 which is a 750 Watt unit. I have 2x NVX, 1X NV+, a GS108 and a computer (C2D E6750 with 4GB of memory and 2HD) and a 24" LCD monitor attached to it. I have not really calculated the load, but it has handled this load for a year now without complaints or getting overly warm. (Adding up the 4 PSU sizes I get 200+220+220+550=1190). When I hover over the RAIDar UPS icon on either NVX, it tells me I have 13 mins of runtime. The UPS is about 4 years old and has the original batteries. I just replaced the batteries in an identical unit in the LR that is actually several months newer when I got a warning from the unit the batteries were worn out. I would imagine I need to replace these as well.
If it were me, I would get everything set up and running, and then look at the icon in RAIDar and see how many minutes you have. Then you can decide whether to add a second unit, or replace the ES750 with a larger unit.

Thanks for the response. According to Frontview on the NV, it says I have 35 minutes of runtime.
Do you know how the runtimes are computed? Do they take into account other devices connected into the UPS? I would be surprised if there was a way to monitor non-intelligent devices (e.g. switches), based on the load.
But how about the devices that can communicate via the remote UPS monitoring? Do you expect that an accurate run time could/would be computed?
