How to deploy virtual ReadyNAS 6.10.8 in ESXi
I have installed ESXi 6.5 on my ReadyNAS 628X and it works well. I am able to retain the VM through rebooting. This is a very simple guide for those who are interested.
1. You need to have a working ESXi. this example uses version 6.5.
2. Highlight "virtual Machines" and click "create/register VM"
3. follow the wizard, choosing "linux/Debian 8 64bit" for the guest OS
4. next step, choose the datastore
5. next step, you will be shown the standard default VM settings. delete the default disk, SCSI controller and optical drive option
6. choose you CPU cores and RAM size
7. Choose USB 3.0 in the drop down menu
8. expand the network entry and choose E1000e as the adapter type
9. Under VM Options, make sure the boot option is BIOS
10. click next till finish the creation.
11. Right click the VM just created and Choose "edit settings", The previous VM setting will show up.
12, Click "Add Hard Disk" and choose "existing Hard Disk", The datastore will show up.
13. Click the VM folder you just created, and click "upload" to upload the 2 disk image files.
14, once done uploading, highlight the newly uploaded image to select.
15, Click Add Hard Disk again, choose a "new Hard Disk" this time. the default is 16 gb. accept the default.
16. Click "add other device" and choose "USB device"
17 under the drop down menu of the USB device just added, choose the intended device.
18, click next till finish
done.
The virtual machine can be started and use RAIDar to discover it.
I have screenshots. but don't know how to attach them.

Use the camera icon in the toolbar over the text box.
Embedded images do need to be manually approved before they are shown, which can take some hours. PM me if that seems to be lagging.
