Performance drop after 2-3 weeks of uptime
Hi,
Every 3 weeks or so performance drops dramatically, to the point opening simple Word/Excel documents from it can take 30-40 seconds. If I reboot it from the web interface, it's fine again.
I use Seagate 24x7 NAS drives in it, and it really is used purely for file-sharing (no add-on apps, no streaming etc).
I'm on the latest firmware (keep it up-to-date regularly).
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Performance drop after 2-3 weeks of uptime
Hi,
Sorry to bring this one back from the dead. But 5 years on and it's still happening. Latest firmware, not reported issues with disks etc. etc.
There's only a very small user base hitting it (<5) so is not being put under stress.
There must be a reason!
Thanks

Which NAS model and OS version? It sounds like you are running out of RAM. Are you running any apps that may have a memory leak?

ReadyNAS 204 with latest available firmware. 4-disks in RAID10. No extra apps, and services are at a minimum as well e.g. only SMB and AV. No NFS, no iTunes etc. etc.

Does turning off AV make any difference?
Have you ever run a balance and a scrub from the volume settings wheel?

On AV, it's only been enabled for maybe a year - when I first saw this problem 5 years ago it was turned off.
I think I have a scheduled scrub, will check and confirm.
