Hi everybody,
I am currently facing an issue with my "old" ReadyNAS Ultra 2 (bought in 2012...) that so far worked well and where I backed-up a while ago (i.e. 3 years ago or so...), valuable files.
Here is the issue :
1. The ReadyNAS has been duly (a while ago also) updated with the latest firmware available : Raidiator 4.2.31 ;
2. I am now accessing (now meaning for the last 2 years or so) the NAS with a new laptop, where WINDOWS 10 is installed ;
3. On this PC I run the soft "RAIDAR" version 6.5.0, that detects perfectly my ReadyNAS, telling me in addition that everything works well...
4. By magic...I can read files that are stored on the NAS (i.e. download FROM NAS), as the NAS is still registered under WindowsExplorer in the "quick access" sub-menu, but conversely, I recently discovered that I couldn't any longuer save new files (i.e. download ON NAS)
5. I also noticed that, with WindowsExplorer, I cannot any longuer "connect" the NAS to my laptop as an external Drive(in the past, it was possible with my former PC). The point is that I cannot explore my local network to "choose" the NAS I want to connect, or else, If I directly input the name of the device for connection, I have a message that says "impossible to find the network way of access" (or something like that as the message I get is written in French !) ;
6. Lastly, always with WindowsExplorer, I can perfectly detect the NAS on my local network (hence I see and can check the name of the device on the Network), and when I double click on it to open the NAS, I get a message invoking an error "0x80004002" telling in addition that "the Interface is not taken in charge"...
7. Once, I can't remenber how, I got also a message telling in substance that the NAS requires a mysterious protocol "SMB1" said to be obsolete and suggesting "SMB2" would be much better !
Well, question for me is now, should I get rid of my old NAS after back-up of content, or is there any hope to restore conveniently abilty to save files on it ?
Any idea here ?
Many thanks in advance
Francois

Hello Michael,
Thank you so much for the advice that prove highly valuable !
I just went to "https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Network-Storage/ct-p/readynas", as suggested.
I found a post that sounds like being related to my issues : "Cannot access shares via Windows Explorer (Readynas Ultra2)"
And then reading the way things were fixed, I saw that I could (should in fact) investigate whether "SMB1" was checked as a feature of INDOWS or not.
Guesse what, it was unchecked...
Ultimately, after checking and reboot of the Pc... every thing is now fixed. I have just finished a back-up of additional files on my ReadyNAS Ultra 2.
Many thanks, and have a nice week-end !!
Francois

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, you aren't asking about routers, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
ReadyNAS Network Storage: Official NETGEAR Community
You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
Check for various troubleshooting tips.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Aha. That one. It also applies to people who use ReadySHARE to attach USB drives to routers.
