RN104 Volume Degraded and does not see new disk
Hi, I see many people have had the volume is degraded issue and I recently have had it.
I have 3x 3TB disks set up as X-RAID and I could see on the admin page that the 3rd disk in slot 3 had vanished, so I assumed that disk had failed.
I replaced with a brand new 3TB disk and although the disk spins up and I can hear the disk trying to be accessed (can hear the disk clicking as though it's trying to read it) the RN doesn't recognise that the disk has been inserted. Similarly it doesn't recognise it in slot 4 either (I also tested the old disk in slot 4).
Does anyone know iif there is something I'm missing or could this be a hardware issue with the RN please? I haven't tried in slots 1 and 2 as don't want to mess up anything with the existing disk/RAID system.
Thanks

Re: RN104 Volume Degraded and does not see new disk
Sounds like the new disk might be bad (not detected in two slots).
The next step is to test it in a Windows PC with vendor tools (Lifeguard for Western Digital, or Seatools for Seagate). You can connect it to the PC with either SATA or a USB adapter/dock. Alternatively, just exchange the disk with the seller.
Another thing you could try is power down the NAS, and remove the disks (labeling by slot). Then put the new disk in slot 1 and power it. The NAS will do a factory install. If that works, then after setup you can try booting the NAS with the new disk in each slot. Power down the NAS before you move the disk to the next slot. This test will check that all the bays are working properly.
