RN10400 vs RN31400
Hello,
As a photographer my business depends on my pictures. Therefore I'm looking for a new NAS. Currently I'm very happy with my ReadyNAS Ultra 2. But I'm running to the storage limitations of this NAS.
The only thing I use the NAS for is as a Volume attached via a 1Gb network on which my RAW files will be kept. I don't need any fancy app's or so.
What will be the best solution for me: RN10400 or RN31400.
Thanks in advantage!
Jord

Re: RN10400 vs RN31400
The RN314 is the safe choice, as it has about the same performance as your ultra.
The RN104 will likely work out as well, but it isn't as fast - you might see drop off when you are browsing folders or writing files to the NAS.

Re: RN10400 vs RN31400
If you like the ultra 2, they equivalent new 4 bay model would be the 314.
My impression is that many users are disappointed with the performance of the 104 even when it's being used solely for storage. Also the 104 has a volume size limitation of 16tb which means currently available 6 tb disks ( which are not yet on the 104 compatibility list) would be ( edit ) just higher than you could go in Xraid. These disks are are the 314 compatibility list.

Re: RN10400 vs RN31400
I have a 314 with 4 2TB WD Reds that I use for storing photographs -- about 3 TB now -- on a gigabit network. I use Photoshop and Bridge.
I'm very happy with the performance of the 314. No complaints.
I did start out with a 104 and returned it within two weeks. The performance for photo uploading, sorting, and editing was unacceptable.
