RN716 - Management service is offline (OS6.4.2)

Good afternoon all

I attempted to access my ReadyNAS RN716x this morning (as I normally do everyday) and was greeted with the error message that my device was not available.

It is not accessible in ReadyCloud nor using Raidar 6.1.  When I attempt to type the IP address into my browser (I've tried several, IE, Chrome, FireFox) it tells me the site cant be reached.  When I use the Raidar app and select Admin Page I'm told the same thing.  I have read the KB pages on this issue but none seem to EXACTLY match my issue other than the fact I can't access the NAS.  Any pointers or assistance would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Your root partition is very full with a large MySQL database stored on the 4GB root volume.

I moved that over onto the data volume.

The LMS app is still using a few hundred MB of space.

Management services is offline means that your ReadyNAS's database is not currently turned on. There's a few reasons why that could happen (like a full OS caused by an app, or for some reason, the database isn't started).

Try this:

http://IP_of_readynas/dbbroker?start_svc=readynasd

If that does not resolve it then download your logs using RAIDar and send those in (see the Sending Logs link in my sig).

Re: RN716 - Management service is offline (OS6.4.2)

Thanks you for the suggestion.  I attempted http://IP_of_my_readynas/dbbroker?start_svc=readynasd in several browsers and none will display a page.  I get "This site can't be reached. xxx.xxx.x.xxx refused to connect"

Re: RN716 - Management service is offline (OS6.4.2)

When I attempt to download the logs thru RAIDar I receive the following:  first a message box opens asking for login authentication.  When I enter my username and password an error message box popps back indicating I did not enter a valid username or password.

I rebooted my 716 xNAS and watched the RAIDar app while it was booting up.  The status indciation changed from System starting up to Managemnt Service is offline.  At this point I can not get access to anything from the RAIDar app.

Did you enter 'admin' (no quotes) as the user and then your admin password as the password? Can you also try the default password of 'password' (no quotes) if your admin password doesn't work?

Yes I did but I will attempt it again, both with what it should be set at and also the default.

Tried both and still the same response - "Not a valid Username or password"

Okay (thanks).  And so these items were/are causing an access issue?  I will need to start researching these items so this does not continue to be an problem.  To be honest I'm completely clueless with respect to what your telling me so I will need to do my homework.  What else should I look for to minimize access issues for the future?

Re: RN716 - Management service is offline (OS6.4.2)

Configuring apps to store data on the data volume rather than on the root volume is important. You can easily fill the 4GB root volume for the OS, config and logs if you store app data on it.

You must have installed an app that requires MySQL, but MySQL was installed in such a way that it was not configured to store the data on the data volume and so the database filled the root volume.

Re: RN716 - Management service is offline (OS6.4.2)

I see and you have or will configure MySQL to store the data to the data volume or I will need to research how to do this and perform the change?

By the way, thanks you so much for troubleshooting this issue.

Re: RN716 - Management service is offline (OS6.4.2)

Yes, I have already configured that and moved the data across.

It is possible to configure that setting using SSH, but there are support implications for doing that.

Well then since you've already corrected that issue - I'll leave well enough alone.
