RNDU6000 Unresponsive, OS6.10.3

My device stops responding and the only recourse to date is a forced shutdown. The frequency is increasing between restarts. When this occurs, the admin page offers the sign-in dialog and is able to detect an incorrect sign-in attempt. With correct credentials, I get the splash screen followed by “connecting to the ReadyNAS Admin Page…”. After about 30 seconds, I am back to the sign-in dialog. I can randomly assess files from the the device. If I attempt to copy a file to the share from which I just accesssd a file, it times out. While this write attempt is pending, additional attempts to access the system time out.

Are you able to download the log zip file while it is responsive?

Also, how much memory is in the NAS?

Yes.  I am able to download the log zip file.  As far as I can tell, there is 1GB RAM installed.  This is from mem_info.txt:

MemTotal: 1005144 kB
MemFree: 79240 kB
MemAvailable: 523676 kB

Another observation I forgot to mention.  When the device becomes unresponsive, the display is blank.  Pressing the power button will wake-up the display which displays the device's name and IP Address.  If I press the button several times, I get "Press PWR to shutdown".  Pressing the power button at this point, the display shows "shutting down" or some similar verbiage.  At this point, nothing else happens.  Pressing the power button (not holding) does nothing, and the device will remain like this for well over 12 hours.  The longest I let it sit was about 24 hours.  Pressing and holding the power button until power shutdown does work and this is how I restart the device.

I misread the first part of the question.  No, when the system is unresponsive, I am unable to get past the authentication page.  Once the system is restarted, I am able to download the logs.

OS-6 x86 NAS all ship with at least 2 GB of RAM.  Initially the 1 GB of RAM in the 4.2.x NAS was enough - but as OS-6 matured, several folks started getting out-of-memory problems.  So I now recommend upgrading the legacy NAS to 2 GB (in your case 2x2GB is also very affordable).

The log might have some clues on why the system is failing.  Maybe look in system.log, kernel.log, and systemd-journal.log for errors and crashes.  If you need help analyzing what's going on, just ask.  But don't post a public link to the full log zip - there is some privacy leakage when you do that.

Re: RNDU6000 Unresponsive, OS6.10.3

I sourced a memory upgrade and now the device is operating with 2GB of RAM.  I re-enabled the DLNA and Antivirus, and now I wait.  Been operating now for 3 days without issue.  Fingers crossed.   Shoot, did I just jinx myself?

Thanks for your time.

The memory upgrade is performing well and the unit remains stable and remains responsive.

Thank you!
