ReadyNAS 200 series
Hi,
I'm really keen to get a readynas 200 series. It said that the device would be available at the end of January, its still "coming soon".
Is there any information regarding when it might be generally available.
Thanks
James

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
I guess it depends on the location, they usually release it in the US first.

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
Next month, I think.
What particularly attracts you to the 200 series?
The 200 series sits in between the 100 series and 300 series. Have you considered the 300 series?

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
Hi,
I am looking for the lowest possible power consumption, but with high performance also. (I'm a bit of an ARM fan, so I'd also rather get the one with the A-15).
The 100 sounds good for the price, but I'd like more power, and I was going to get a 314 until I heard the 200 series was announced.
The 200 seems to sit in that sweet spot.
Thanks
James

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
200 series uses ARM.
There's actually a big improvement:
RN100
CPU: Marvell® Armada 370 1.2GHz
Memory: 512MB DDR3
Max Capacity: 2BAY 8TB / 4BAY 16TB
RN200
CPU: Annapurna AL212 ARM Dual Cortex A15 processor
Memory: 2GB DDR3 SDRAM
Max Capacity: 2BAY 12TB/ 4BAY 24TB

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
Any idea on the UK price on the RN202?
I see it says the MSRP is $360 (http://www.anandtech.com/show/8900/netgear-launches-arm-cortexa15based-readynas-200-series) which puts it just below the RN312( $382 on amazon.com) so around £200-£220?

Sounds about right, but it will depend on the retailers on your region.

It sounds to be a perfect balance, and it seems excellent performance. I'd prefer an ARM platform too, however, I would like to see real world data for power consumption and performance.

And of course, UK availability date and price still very much anticipated.

Very curious myself.
The 104 has a great price, but the CPU/RAM combo is completely anemic.

I'm with giulianoz. The 104 doesn't deliver what it says on the tin.

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
400 British pounds for the 204? That's 314 territory!
I hope Netgear convinces Plex to make the transcoding engine to work on ARM CPUs, otherwise I dont much of a selling point.
Any chance of the 104 upgrade/trade-in path?

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
In the US, the RN202 at Amazon is $330, the RN312 is $382. The RN202 is offered at list, the RN312 is discounted and lists at $480.
If Amazon offered the same discounts on the RN202 as it offers for the RN102 and RN312, it would be better positioned.

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
Just got my RN204, and put 2 6TB WD RED drives in today.
Its currently rebuilding everything, although in the mean time everything is accessible.
Is it normal that during rebuild the performance is really slow? If I transfer a file during rebuild the disks make a lot of clicking.
Thanks
James

I think it's normal. how long does it take to rebuild the array ? can you tell how much was the rn204 ?
thanks

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
I'd wait for the rebuilding to complete, and then see if you still have clicking sounds. I am not hearing clicking with my RN202 (which also has two 6 TB drives installed).

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
well,
I've found an rn204 in italy on amazon for 563€, the rn314 sells for 496€ (no mistakes...). Any comment on that prices ? I'm not finding any reason to go with the 204 right now...

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
You have a quite good deal on the RN314 (selling a bit less than Amazon US if you use google's current exchange rate). So definitely go with the RN314.

In the US, amazon is selling the RN204 for $500 (list price), and the RN314 for $550 (discounted $100). Not sure why they aren't discounting the RN200s.

The 200 is so new on the market so it takes some time before they start to discount them.

Re: ReadyNAS 200 series
Likely true. But IMO the right price point for it is about half way between the RN100 and the RN300 - around $385 US for a 4-bay unit at the moment.
ljung wrote: The 200 is so new on the market so it takes some time before they start to discount them.
Sales will languish if it isn't significantly less expensive than an RN300. Which is a shame, the product is big step up from the RN100.
