ReadyNAS 2100 - What processor?
Seeking information about the ReadyNAS 2100 processor. All I have been able to find is that it is an "embedded Intel processor". What model processor and how fast is it? How would the processor in a 2100 unit compare to, say, a Pro6 or an NV+ (all manufactured within the last six months)?
Really, I'm trying to figure out the speed difference between the three models. We currently have the last one and, in our 10-person office, we find it slow.
Here's where I'm looking:
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=55010
vs
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=68305
vs
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=29873
ALSO... What other advantages could be noticed in having an Intel processor? Could we do something with an Intel processor that we cannot with our present Sparc processor? (Install different software on the RN? Additional add-ons?)
Thank you.

Re: ReadyNAS 2100 - What processor?
I would go with the Pro6 (best power/performance). If you need rack mount, then the 2100. Avoid the Sparc (NV+) systems, long EOL now, and that 4x750G, wow from like 2007!
It depends which model 2100 you get, there is no easy way to know when ordering, though the v1 should be long out of stock now.
2100v1 is the Intel Tolapai 1.2ghz (similar to NVX), http://ark.intel.com/products/34314/Int ... r-1066-MHz
2100v2 is the Intel Atom D510 1.66Ghz (same as Pro4), http://ark.intel.com/products/43098/Int ... e-1_66-GHz
With the Intel x86 CPU, there is a wider range of software available, compared to the older limited Sparc CPU.

Re: ReadyNAS 2100 - What processor?
Thanks Chirpa.
Does the Pro6 support load balancing on its LAN ports?
What type of software would an Intel processor allow? Can you give me some popular "fer instances"?

Re: ReadyNAS 2100 - What processor?
Yes, Pro6, even 2100, can do teaming/bonding on the NICs.
Some software that is closed source, like Symantec Backup Exec Remote Linux Agent (RALUS), is only available on x86. So users on Sparc,ARM cannot use that add-on. Other programs like Plex,Orb in the past have been similar. There is just a larger pool of applications built for x86.
