ReadyNAS 2tb x 6 at RAID-5 having a capacity of RAID-10 config

ready31662Capture2.PNGready31662Capture1.PNG

My ReadyNAS 316 was initially set up with 3 x 2Tb  drives. Subsequently, I added another 3 x 2Tb drives hoping to achieve a capacity of 9.06 Tb as estimated by the RAID calculator at https://rdconfigurator.netgear.com/raid/index.html as shown below.

Although my configuration is shown as RAID-5 , it appears to have a capacity of RAID-10.  Why do I get this discrepancy?

Thanks

It wouldn't have switched to RAID-10.  I suspect that the NAS didn't add all three of the new drives to your array (even though the UI looks like it did).  One thing that happens sometimes is that the virtual disk created by the RAID array expands, but the NAS doesn't expand the file system to use that space.

The recommended practice is to add one disk at a time (waiting for the resync and expansion to complete before you move on to the next).  Is that what you did?

Can you download the log zip file, and post mdstat.log here?  It's best to put it in a "code" section ( </> icon).

You might also try rebooting the NAS, and see if that triggers expansion.

Hi StephenB

I replied to your post, but the response is not appearing. I read in the forum that this may be due to spam protection. Is it because I copied in the log file? I hope the response will appear once moderated.

thanks

It's not in the spam quarantine now.  Can you please repost it?

@StephenB replied

Note the data volume array is RAID-5, and is about 10 GB - so the RAID is correct.

The problem is that the BTRFS file system hasn't expanded to use all the space.

If you have good linux skills you could try expanding the file system yourself.

Thank you @StephenB. Expanding btrfs manually,  fixed the problem.
