ReadyNAS 3200 for home use?

Hi folks.

I currently use a QNAP for home files storage, movies etc. etc. but have been offered a ReadyNAS 3200.

My question is simple.

Is the ReadyNAS 3200 any good to me as a home user?

It is designed for a server room - I haven't seen a noise spec, but I think you would need to keep it isolated.

Because of the vibration (due to all those bays) the disks need to be enterprise grade. These are 2x the price of desktop grade disks. The HCL goes up to 2 TB, not higher (presumably not a firmware issue).

Assuming it works, I'd take one if it were offered to me. But you should consider the challenges above.

Do be aware it's very noisy as mentioned. Designed to be in a server room where people don't mind at all if equipment makes noise.

I too would take one if it was offered to me though.

its noise level is comparable to a vacuum cleaner, so i wouldnt want to have it anywhere i can hear it. the attic or the cellar should be fine though 🙂
