ReadyNAS 628x cannot access management from browser - Internal Server Error

Help help help!

We have deleted one of our admin users (not the main admin) on the readynas management backend, and now we are no longer able to log in. We are still connected to the server, but have no access to the backend - we get an internal server error when we try with the IP/Nas name.

Is this the same incident (posted by someone else at your company)? https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS-in-Business/Internal-Server-Error-when-accessin...

Or is it just coincidence that we are seeing two very similar issues at the same time?

No problem, just checking.

The account deletion info here wasn't in the other post - and does provide a clue about the root cause.

If ssh is enabled in the NAS, then you could potentially try adding back the account you deleted.

An OS reinstall might also work - hard to say, but it is unlikely to do more damage.  Instructions for the reinstall are on pages 146-147 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_%20OS6_Desktop_HM_EN.pdf

The reinstall will also

  • reset the admin password to password
  • reset the network configuration to use DHCP with no bonding
  • disable volume quota on the volume settings wheel

Though if those ideas don't work (or if you prefer not to risk them) then paid support would be needed.  As I noted in the other thread, if you don't have an up-to-date backup it would be wise to take care of that before doing anything else.
