ReadyNAS Duo v2

Hello, everybody,

i have a RN Duo v2 with two 3TB WD red disks, Radiator 5.3.13.

The disk in shaft 1 failed.

New 3TB WD red ordered and installed.

Sync runs for about 8 hours, is then stopped with the message "RAID sync finished on volume C. The array is still in degraded mode, however. This can be caused by a disk sync failure or failed disks in a multi-parity disk array."

It looks like no data has been copied.

I tried the whole thing twice.

The new disk has a different firmware.

Can anyone say what the problem might be?

Do a full backup.  Then do a factory install with all disks in place, and confirm that the RAID array is correct.  Then reconfigure the NAS, and restore the data from backup.

 

A variant is to do the factory install with only the new disk in slot 1, and confirm that is ok.  Then hot-insert the remaining disks one at a time.

If you can connect the disk(s) to a Windows PC, it would be helpful if you test them both with WD's Lifeguard software.  You'd connect them with either SATA or a USB adapter or dock.  Power down the NAS before removing the disks for testing, and label them by slot number (so you can replace them later).

 

I don't own a v2 NAS.  But see if you can download the log zip file, and look in there for mdstat.log.  If you see that, then please copy/paste it into a reply here.

I have booted the NAS after sync only with the new disk in slot 1 inserted and no data was available.

Another boot with only the old disk in slot 2 was showing all the data.

So I guess nothing's been copied.

Now the NAS is working only with the disk in slot 2.

I will try WD's Lifeguard software, but it's gonna take some time.

So disk 1 isn't in the array at all.

 

After you use the normal long nondestructive test with lifeguard, you should also run the full write zeros test.  If both pass, then try inserting the disk back into slot 1 with the NAS running.

Normal test is running about 5 hours and then I will write the zeros.

The long test was running without errors, but I could not find a test to write zeros.

Status is as follows:

The volume is up but not redundant, disk 1 is as usual the problem.

Can you point out how to write zeros?

Click on "run tests" and then click on "erase" Choose the "full erase" option.

Hello, I have reconfigured the raid and partially restored the data.

Everything looks good for now.

Stupid that this doesn't reflect the function of a NAS.

Hi, have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo v2 RND2000-200EUS (working) and recently had a new Asus router. I now can't connect to the ReadyNAS Duo v2 where all my work is stored, I can see it in Network but it won't connect. Any ideas how I can connect? I'm on a Mac, the firmware doesn't work for this model either! So I'm at a loss.

Same IP address, and same IP subnet, as before on the original router and LAN? Static IP configured (as before), and adopted the previous router LAN IP subnet addressing?

Hi and thank you for replying. Yes with help from my ISP...

"Try changing the LAN IP to 192.168.2.1 and the DHCP start with 192.168.2.20 ending address 192.168.2.200. Hopefully then you will be in the same subnet as the Netgear NAS." 

This is showing me more, I can see folders called admin, backup, home, media and share BUT I can't see my Work!!

OK I have tried that but I get a 'Device is offline' box appearing in my browser and then limited Dashboard items behind that. The device is on with blue lights showing, it's plugged into the router too, just how it was with the old router.

Likely are you aren't using the same credentials as you were before.  What happens if you look deeper into "home"?  You should see a few usernames there (admin for sure).  Look in those and see if you see your folders.
