ReadyNAS Pro and Seagate ST32000645NS Constellation ES.2 drives

Does anyone have ST32000645NS drives working in a ReadyNAS Pro Business or Pioneer or Ultra 6?

I know the ST32000645NS is not on the compatibility list for the pro, but ALL of it's sister Constellation ES.2 drives are on the list.  And it is on the list for the 3100,3200,4200, and 4200v2, which run the same OS4 as the PRO.

And its predecessor, the Constellation ES ST32000644NS IS on the list for the PRO.

Seagate Constellatio ES2 drives

  ST33000650NS - 3Tb - YES

  ST32000645NS - 2Tb - NO

  ST31000340NS - 1Tb - YES (RAIDiator 4.01+ required if Seagate firmware is SN03 or SN04)

  ST3750330NS - 750Gb - YES (RAIDiator 4.01+ required if Seagate firmware is SN03 or SN04)

  ST3500320NS - 500Gb - YES (RAIDiator 4.01+ required if Seagate firmware is SN03 or SN04)

  ST3250310NS - 250Gb - YES (RAIDiator 4.01+ required if Seagate firmware is SN03 or SN04)

So the 2Tb version of the ES2 is the only drive in the ES2 series that isn't on the compatibility list for the Pro, but is in the list for other units.

My dimenna is I have 5 of these puppies (unused) laying around and wanted to put them to good use but obviously don't want to use them if there is a glaring issue with them.  But it does seem odd that all the drives in the family are approved for use except the 2Tb version.  Kinda makes me think it was just a timing thing that it didn't get tested.

The compatibility list is not up to date for legacy models.

I would use the disks, bearing in mind that if you needed support they could technically deny support.

I would also have a backup.

Re: ReadyNAS Pro and Seagate ST32000645NS Constellation ES.2 drives

I just installed two of the same 2Tb Dell drives (Seagate ST32000xxx Constellation OEM) into a Pro Nas Pioneer running 4.4.27 and after the usual forever striping and resynch process, they appear to be running without issues - both the logs and SMART data look good - reads and writes haven't appreciably suffered, and I can still pretty much saturate a 1Gb network (85-96 Gbps/sec) from a decent Win 10 box.

Not bad for a very low-cost network box.

Cheers

Jim
