ReadyNAS compatability with HP Officejet 5610 "all in one"

I'm considering purchase of a ReadyNAS DUO but need to use it as a print server for my HP Officejet 5610.

This printer model is not listed on the ReadyNAS USB Printers Hardware Compatibility List (http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=91) but is not identified as incompatible.

Would be grateful for advice as to whether this printer can be used.

Re: ReadyNAS compatability with HP Officejet 5610 "all in on

I found answer to get printing working in the following topics:
- http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=31095

What I need to know is if it is possible to get the scanner and fax functions working on the HP Officejet 5610 when connected to the ReadyNAS.

Advice appreciated.

Re: ReadyNAS compatability with HP Officejet 5610 "all in on

I think the answer, no, is in the first reference. All-In-One printers are notoriously difficult to connect via a network emulation. I have an Office Jet Pro 8500 that works just fine over the network, including scans, but it was designed with an ethernet port.

The least expensive (any brand) networked AIO printer I could find is the HP 4500 on Newegg for $70. They also have the Office Jet 8500A for $180, and it is a nice printer. Mine is a little over a year old.

Re: ReadyNAS compatability with HP Officejet 5610 "all in on

This lists the printers compatible with NETGEAR print servers.

* Supported printers either use USB or parallel printing. Some use both.
* The new WGPS606 print server, however, supports other printers.
* Multifunction printers such as combination printer/copier/fax only support the printing function. This is true of all non-NETGEAR products, too.
* Except as noted, bidirectional features, such as reporting ink status to networked computers, are not supported.
* Other printers and features may be compatible, but NETGEAR has not tested them.
* You can use a browser or the Support search to look just for a printer number. E.g., search "660", instead of "Epson Stylus Color 660". You may find more than one model.
* A few printers are incompatible with most print servers, including NETGEAR's. Generally this is due to non-standard software such as CAPT and GDI.
