The host name contains illegal characters

I am getting thie message in the logs:

"The host name contains illegal characters This may cause undefined behavior when using some network services. Please change the host name using only valid characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, -)"

I am presuming this why for some time I have had issues with access on some devices. Can I just edit the Host Name from "ReadyNAS_****" to just "ReadyNAS123" etc?

Also I have just upgraded to 6.10.1 and I am now seeing a ? in my Finder, this may be caused by the same isssue.

Is it safe to change the Host Name?

Many devices are ok with _, but it is illegal per RFC 1123.

It is safe to change it.   Some devices might have the old name in their cache - rebooting them will of course fix that.
