I'm contemplating purchasing a NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus and have a few questions:
The documentation says it has capacity is up to 4TB. But the compatibility list says it can handle 3 TB drives. Can I use two of these in a mirrored RAID configuration so the NAS has 3 TB of net usable storage space?
The device has two gigabit Ethernet connectors on the back. I'd like to locate the NAS in my office, near my iMac. This area only has one hard-wired Ethernet port in the wall, so I'd either have to purchase a network switch (hub) or daisy-chain the NAS and the iMac. I'd prefer the latter. So, can I use the two ports to daisy-chain the NAS with other devices?
I'd like to connect the NAS to my UPS. I have a CyberPower CP850PFCLCD. It only has one USB port (currently occupied by a connection to the iMac). Can I use this UPS with the NAS and the iMac?

Yes. That is the default mode of operation.

No, the product doesn't have a daisy-chain mode. BTW, what you would want is a gigabit switch, not a hub.

You can certainly hook up the NAS to the CyberPower - that will protect you from short outages. But if you want the NAS to shutdown when the CyberPower runs out of battery, then that is a bit more tricky. You'd want to connect the UPS USB cable to the NAS (since the iMac is probably not on all the time). You can install a software package called NUT on the iMAC, and monitor the UPS over the network. (Note you also would need to keep the switch running during the power outage).
So this probably can be done, but It might be simpler to get another CyperPower.
BTW, I share a CyberPower between an NV+ and a Duo (both V1), which works fine. It also protects a desktop PC - however, the desktop does not monitor the NAS, so it would do an improper shutdown on the PC if the power is totally drained. When I'm not using it, the desktop is in standby, so I figure this is ok.
