Ultra 6 Memory Upgrade Verification

I want to upgrade the memory on my Ultra 6s. I have two. 8GB seems a little pricey so 4B will have tp do. I've searched the forum and want to verify which memory is correct for the Ultra 6. Can someone verify for me before I order?

Also does the Ultra 6 hold one or two memory sticks?

Here you are.  It is the ReadyNAS Ultra 6 (Not Ultra 6 Plus), the CPU is the Intel Atom D510. 2x2Gb

Sorry. That does not answer my question. I thought mgdm's reply verified the question as to what type. It doesn't.

Well, when I upgraded my pro-6 a while back I went with Patriot Signature Line 8GB DDR2 800 PC2 6400 Memory Module PSD28G800K  That's been in place for about a year, and I haven't run into any issues.

Though I don't know if that will work out as well on your ultra (and it is  2x4GB, not 2x2GB).

Stephen, thanks. So many legacy models I'm just not sure. Ditto on memory. Too many choices. If I weren't ordering online it wouldn't be a big deal for a return.

Make sure it is a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 (Not Ultra 6 Plus), The CPU in the Ultra 6 is the Intel Atom D510:

It has two DIMM (Not SODIMM) slots, supports up to maximum of 4GB (2GB each slot DDR2 667/800). Default was 1GB

The Ultra 6 (RNDU6000) and Ultra 6 Plus (RNDP600U) have very different hardware.

It's an Ultra 6 not Ultra 6 Plus.

From Frontview:

That's one of the things that's confusing. The photos on the early Ultra user guides and the website show a picture of the NV series.

In my seraching I checked Hardware Compalibility for memory and got "Page Not Found".

I could go on but I'll stop. 🙂

I'm just a tad bit confused and need some verification. Any clarification is helpful.

The specs I mentioned are for the Ultra 6.

sotrack's example of what he used will be helpful too.

After replacing the memory you should run at least a couple of passes of the memory test. N.B. it is possible that incompatible memory may pass the memory test.

I have an Ultra 6 too.

Recently I have added an extra 1 GB PC2-6400.

Just in case OS6 would require more.

So I have 2 GB know, that seems to be enough in my situation.

Memory rec'd and memory test running on first unit.

For the life of me I could not remove the motherboard. after taking out the 6 screws I was having to apply too much force.

Thankfully, I have small hands and was able to snap the memory in.

I have one more unit to do assuming things go well with unit 1.

Any tips on removing the mobo?

6 is not enough. I recall removing 1 or 2 screws from the back as well. Near the USB or network connector.

Then you have to gently pull it a bit away from the back (couple of millimeters) before trying to move it up.

Near the spot where you removed 4 screws is a large connector that connects this part of the board to another board.

Jan, I removed two screws from the read to slide off the side plate. Then I removed 6 screws from the mobo. (See sotracks' picture). After that I tried to gently pull the mobo away from the USB/ethernet side but it seemed much to tight to pull any further.

To remove the motherboard after you have removed the side, there is still 1 screw to be removed,

There are 2 USB connections and another connection I do not recognize.

Above that other connection there is a screw you have to remove to.

When you look at sotrack's picture you see a small almost cubicle component on that location.

That is there to hold the screw.
