Hello! I’m having trouble accessing my ReadyNAS RN104 after upgrading the FW to 6.10.1.
The system boots up normally.
- I can ping the IP address on my network.
- I can access the login page, and it takes my credentials.
- But that’s as far as I can get- it just hangs on the Netgear splash screen with the firmware version after entering my password
- I’ve tried Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox.
- I can access some functions via the NAS utils app on Android
- I’ve tried rebooting
- I’ve tried re-flashing the FW via USB (current version only)
- I’ve tried pluging into the other NIC
- The LCD displays the IP and volume capacity
- None of my volumes are available via the network.
I’m fresh out of ideas! Is there any real danger in rolling back the FW via USB? Anything else I can try?
Thanks!

Maybe try an OS reinstall next. It does a partial reinstall of the operating system, which might repair whatever is wrong. Instructions are on pages 28-29 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS-100/ReadyNAS_%20OS6_Desktop_HM_EN.pdf
It won't affect your data. However, it will
- reset your admin password back to password
- reset the network connection to use DHCP (and no bonding)
- disables volume quota
What other apps are you running on the RN104?

Perhaps also check the status with RAIDar. Also try to download the log zip file with RAIDar. https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar

Re: Unable to log into RN104 after FW update
HI!! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I Tried RAIDar and it works fine! Everything is green and healthy. Diags are clean. I was able to download the log files- which one might offer a clue as to the problem?

This is not great, personally I'd replace this disk.

But this is the more urgent problem. Were you running Antivirus?
Paid support (my.netgear.com) can easily take care of the full volume. If you are comfortable with the linux command line you could also attempt to diagnose/solve it yourself.

The root message did catch my attention, but I'm not quite sure what it means. I did have anti-virus on before I attempted the upgrade.

The operating system lives on the disks in a 4 GB partition. If something goes wrong, and that partition gets full then lots of bad stuff can happen. In particular, the NAS can fail to boot, and NAS configuration files can become corrupted.
You can try this procedure to clean up the root: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS-in-Business/System-volume-root-s-usage-is-90-RN...
If it's not the Antivirus, then you'd need to look further to identify the files that are filling the OS partition.

Re: Unable to log into RN104 after FW update
Thanks for the help! I was able to SSH in, but didn't find anything abnormal in /var/lib/clamav:
root@RehmNAS:/var/lib/clamav# ls -lsh total 154M 4.0K -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 48 Jun 9 16:06 antivir.ini 992K -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 990K Jan 25 13:27 bytecode.cld 41M -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 41M Jun 9 16:01 daily.cvd 113M -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 113M Apr 1 2018 main.cvd 4.0K -rw------- 1 root root 1.6K Jun 9 16:06 mirrors.dat root@RehmNAS:/var/lib/clamav#
So I followed the troubleshooting in the post you linked to. In the /mnt directory i found about 300 files named "chunk-stream1-00XXX.m4s"
They range in size from 2.0M to 0K. total size of /mnt is 284M. Any idea what these are and if I still need them? I did have a plex server installed that began acting up right before this started happening.

Re: Unable to log into RN104 after FW update
Interesting- I'm seeing more of these chunk-stream files in the root directory, the root/mnt directory, and the root/mnt/mnt directory. There appears the be a whole duplicate mnt folder inside the main one. Still havnt seen any unusually large log files anywhere

Re: Unable to log into RN104 after FW update
One more update: I found an old torrent file in the /data folder that was taking up 2.6G. Deleted it and it cleared up the storage.
Last login: Sun Jun 9 16:02:54 2019 from 192.168.1.26 root@RehmNAS:~# df // -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/md0 4.0G 1.2G 2.6G 32% / root@RehmNAS:~# root@RehmNAS:~# df // -i Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on /dev/md0 65536 17532 48004 27% / root@RehmNAS:~#
I rebooted the NAS, but still unable get past the splashscreen when loading the web interface 😞

Yes, these are related to plex transcoding - you can delete them.

Re: Unable to log into RN104 after FW update
Thanks again very much for the help!
I've cleared out the plex junk files left behind, and and the old torrent file. I'm down to aobut 30% disk usage.
I can navigate the file system through SSH, and diagnostics come back all good through RAIDar, and I've rebooted a couple times. However, I still can not get the admin page to load. It still hangs on the splash screen after inputing my username and password. Any other ideas I can try? Would There be a real rish of damage if I were to downgrade the firmware via USB?
