Hello! I have 8x8 HGST drives for a total of 64 TO on my 8 bays RN42800-100NES .
I'd like to replace those 8 TB by new 16 TB HD but I', wondering if:
1) the new 16 TB HD will be recognized by the NAS (from what I've read on this forum yes, It should) and then:
2) Can I replace the 8 TB hard drive progressively, letting the NAS the time to rebuild the missing datas as I only want to expand the total space of storage but not loose any data.

It's sad Netgear stopped selling those readyNAS, I own 2 of them and never had any complaint about them, plus the price tag was really good.
Yes, as long as it is SATA (and not SAS). FWIW, the largest size I'm currently using myself is 14 TB, others here have reported success with bigger drives.

You can, though it will take longer (with a lot more disk i/o).
Expansion won't happen until you upgrade the fourth disk - when that resyncs the volume will grow by 16 TB to 64 TB. The remaining four upgrades will add an additional 8 TB per resync.
You don't actually need to upgrade all of them now, you could start by upgrading 4 and then do the rest later on as your storage needs grow.
It sounds like you might not have a backup for your data. If that is the case, I suggest putting some backup plan in place - either a second NAS, or a set of USB drives. Even RAID-6 isn't enough to keep your data safe.
